We had the good fortune of connecting with Madison Truscan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Madison, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Is work-life balance a real thing? I ask myself this almost every day, and in short – yes, it can be!

The solution is boundaries. I spent many years early in my photography and social media marketing career lacking boundaries altogether and my overall well being suffered immensely. I was working 80+ hours a week, never saying no even when I was beyond burnt out and anxious. I’ve always been a chronic sufferer of FOMO (fear of missing out, if you’re new to the term). But, in 2023 I set out to establish boundaries for myself as a creative and I have grown so much because of this. In fact, my clients respect me MORE now for being clear on my limits. I do not work past 5 PM or on weekends for social media clients. If I am out of office, I am actually OUT of office and not responding to emails or phone calls. My mental health has improved drastically and I find I am more productive in the hours I am working and get more work done in less time.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In talking about my career, I would love to share with anyone reading that the “non-traditional” path is just as wonderful as the “traditional” path. You do not have to have life perfectly figured out. You do not need to go off to a four year university. You do not have to conform to societal norms. There is no one that knows you better than yourself, and success should be measured subjectively, not objectively. I did not go off to college immediately after high school, and I loved every second of the gap years I took to figure out what I actually wanted to do with my career and establish a name for myself. Just because my timeline looks a little different than yours, doesn’t make me any less of a team member, employee or business owner.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my best friend comes to Dallas, we definitely are catching some live music in Deep Ellum, and cocktails in the Bishop Arts District. Sundays are perfect for the Dallas Farmers Market, and we’ll wrap up the weekend with yoga or a meditation class at Le Sol House.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Anna Barringer, the founder of Loud Agency and my boss, friend and business partner is one of the hardest working people I have ever met! She took a chance on hiring me and we’ve truly been able to grow our company and team immensely.
