We had the good fortune of connecting with Giselle Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Giselle, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Growing up people always asked me what I wanted to do for a career. the first thought that came to me was being a doctor. But I wasn’t sure about it. I feel like everyone goes directly into the medical field because it’s the perfect career for everyone. well, I wanted to wait and see what I was passionate about. being in my teens I really loved the beauty/cosmetic world. I joined cosmetology School wanting to be just a makeup artist. well as we kept doing more than just makeup, I realized I loved doing hair. the first time I did highlights on my first client I didn’t know what I was doing but at the end of the service when she looked at herself in the mirror and she kept saying how much she loves her hair, made me feel so AMAZING. at the moment I felt like I was on top of the world. Now that I get to do more clients and I know what I’m doing, I don’t just do hair, I also listen to what my clients have to tell me about their life. I now realize that being a hairstylist is more than just doing hair. we meet and see so many clients every day and we listen to their story, and we make them feel special, we give them a whole different look, it’s like going to therapy. as a hairstylist I’m able to make someone find the best version of themselves. sometimes it doesn’t even feel like work because I just love being a hairstylist. There is a saying ” do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life.”

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a Hair Artist at Heath Hair Salon and Spa, I love doing blondes, balayage, vivid colors and more. it is not easy formulating color for the perfect look. I am so grateful I’m working with such talented team. they are not just hairstylist they are also coaches/mentors and they have helped me so much and everything I know about hair/color now is all thanks to my mentors I’ve had.
I grew up in a very poor town in El Salvador. where we didn’t have warm water or heaters or a/c. I have struggle so much as a teen mom and people always have judge me over that. there was a point in my life that I almost believed what they said was true. That I am not worth it, and I won’t be anything in life. well guess what.? now year 2023 I am a 25-year-old mother to a 10-year-old girl, I am someone’s daughter, I’m someone’s gym buddy I am someone’s oldest sister, and I am someone hairstylist! I am very proud of who I am now and everything I’ve overcame.
