We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Artelia Wadley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Artelia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business came from several different things. When I was doing undergrad at UNT and received my Bachelors in Business Administration in the professional field of Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management, my intentions was to always have my business. What I didn’t know was the kind of busy or the industry I would be in when that time came. After graduating from chiropractic school and working for several types of clinics such as: accident and injury, workers compensation, and general practice. This made me realize that there was no such thing as a perfect work environment and if there was it was something I had to create on my own. Then I decided that I wanted to create a positive ,unique, and memorable chiropractic experience centered around individualized quality chiropractic care for my patients! I wanted to focus on quality more than quantity making patients feel valued and not like their just a number. This was the process behind starting Wadley Chiropractic.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Wadley Chiropractic is a family practice, that treats patient from 0-99 years of age, including infants and prenatal care. Health and wellness is the focus in my practice and I take a whole-body approach when treating patients. Quality of care is my main focus and treating my patients like extended family and not just a number. I am experienced in several techniques and modalities such as: Activator protocol, Diversified (Manual), Thompson technique, Flexion/Distraction, Electrical Stimulation, Ultrasound, Manual Therapy. and Therapeutic Exercise. I am a member of the I.C.P.A (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association) since 2015 and Webster Certified, a special technique for pregnant women. Every patient gets individualized care according to their needs. I believe what sets me apart from others is allowing my patients to be themselves, creating a fun environment for them to embrace chiropractic, putting a smile on their face or making them laugh, and most importantly helping them understand their bodies. What I’m most proud of brand-wise is going above and beyond to make sure people have a great chiropractic experience at Wadley Chiropractic.
I graduated from Parker University in April 2014 with my Doctorate of Chiropractic and a Bachelors in Health and Wellness.. After graduation, I worked at several different clinics that included: accident and injury, workers compensation, even traveled once a week to Houston, TX to treat patients. Still having a passion for health and wellness and wanting to create a unique environment for chiropractic, leading me to open my own practice Wadley Chiropractic in 2017. This was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life yet one of the most fulfilling things. It is an honor and privilege that I am able to serve families in the DFW area through chiropractic in my own practice.
One of the biggest challenges I had to overcome while attending graduate school was being a mom at the same time. I also had one of the most important jobs to do and that was being a mom to my two kids (daughter and son). As a mom this meant, I had to work part-time on the weekends, and when I got home from school check homework, make dinner, and all the other million things that moms do. It was overwhelming at times, but my kids were my inspiration to keep pushing to the finish line. I literally had no time to waste and had to use all of my time wisely. With the help and support of my family I overcame this challenge and made it to the finish line.
Lessons that I have learned along the way would be to, never be afraid to ask for help, stay the course, never give up, and that dreams do come true!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So we would start out getting us a smoothie bowl at Mamaka, my favorite one is “The Bro”, then we would hit the Trinity Trails and get a little exercise walking and then renting some bikes and just enjoying some amazing fresh air. I would then take them to Pressed for some fresh pressed juice. After that, we have to check out Market by Macy’s they’re always having a great sale. Then for lunch we would go to CoCo Shrimp and enjoy some great food. I would then take them to Onyx Nail bar so we can all get mani’s and pedi’s. After going home to change and freshen up then I would take them to dinner at Mesero’s in Clear fork. Throughout the week we would hit up more stores like Marshalls ,TJ Maxx, Paragon outlet mall in Grandprarie, North Park Mall. Then we definitely hit up some brunch spots two of my favorite is Gloria’s and Blue Mesa, and for dinner I would take them to Perry’s Steak house and Copelands. These are some of my favorite places I would take them!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my husband Tyre Thomas, my kids Jaime Nava & Curtis Robinson, and my parents Gregory & Verbena Wadley. My husband is the one who pushed me to return back to school and always encouraging me to do what it was I truly desired. I’m so blessed to have him in my life! To my kids who were my biggest cheerleaders and to whom I had to practice on a lot. They also inspired me to be a better version of myself. My parents who were and additional support system helping me get the kids to and from school and other activities they were involved in. I would not be where I am today with the support, help, and love of these people. They are my earthly angels and I am forever grateful for them helping me navigate this journey.
