We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Simmons and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Justin, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
Most definitely my family and just everyday life experience
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Watching 70’s and 80’s art sitcoms like “Goodtimes”and “Bob Ross”, really inspired and motivated me to paint. The beautiful and bold paintings created by Erine Barnes, “The Sugar Shack” and “Black Jesus” , captured my attention every time they were televised. I constantly educated myself, learning different methods and concepts to improve my craft. I read books by Solomon J Solomon and Oliver Sin just to get a better understanding of how to be more creative and how to express more details in my work. The process of learning can be very difficult at times, but I have had much support from my colleagues and mentors which has brought me longevity in my art journey.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Downtown Fort Worth and Dallas has some mof the best restaurants and entertainment in the State of Texas. Areas like Deep Ellum, Dallas Art Fest.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First I would like to thank the City of Arlington of Texas for the support and the love for Art. Also like to thank Create Arlington and Arlington Proud group for the promotion and Art networking.
