We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikita Jacobs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nikita, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was seeking to live a life of fulfillment in all areas. I had that personally but professionally I know I needed to start my own business in order to love what I was investing my time in everyday. I also was seeking flexibility as a wife and mother and desire to create a legacy for my children – being an example of investing in yourself and your dreams, never allowing anyone to deter from your God given destiny.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I worked in mortgage and finance with one of the world’s top banks for over a decade, climbing the corporate ladder. As an African American woman, I was working twice as hard as my counterparts in order to be recognized and offered a seat at the table. God told me it was time for me to build my own table and invite others to pull up a seat. I quickly realized that building my own table required more than I anticipated! I had to become an accountant, conduct the field work, administrative assistant and everything in-between but I knew I was walking in my purpose.

I did not grow up in a home so I always dreamed of owning a beautiful brick home, with the white picket fence, the American dream. When I purchased my first home, I was young and had no direction in the process so I learned a lot by trial and error. My own experience was also a driving force in me wanting to help others in the home buying process to avoid unnecessary mistakes and push past their fears to attain homeownership.

My signature became “your home and loan girl” because I help my clients save on their closing costs through educating them using my HALP Now program. I am not just present on closing day, I am literally there every step of the way and truly care about the wants and needs of my clients.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, God who is head of my life and who has allowed me to walk in my purpose, my husband and kids for their unlimited support throughout my entrepreneurial journey. Without their support, I would not be where I am today. My mother, Dr. Katie Lott, started a home school after my youngest babies were born, in order to help my husband and I with caring for them during the day.  Through her selflessness in assisting me, she created “My Journey to Success Christian Academy” located in Bedford, Texas. She is now an entrepreneur as well and we are praying for God to bless her with a building so she can teach more children. Last but not least, my mentors who I can call at any time for guidance and to continually push me.

I remember being terrified to take that leap of faith into the world of entrepreneurship but God has carried me through every step of the way. I have read Scott Allan’s book “Do it Scared” twice and I highly recommend it to anyone having trouble taking that first step due to fear. It is not easy, but it is well worth it.
