We had the good fortune of connecting with Keith Harper and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keith, what are you inspired by?
I am inspired by the hard work and the dedication people put into things. I love seeing the RESULTS of that! That really inspires me to pursue my dreams and goals harder. I’m also inspired by people telling me that I inspire them…. hopefully this makes sense what I am saying. There’s a certain feeling of validation that I get from that. I feel like I’m doing what I was put on this earth to do.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The thing that I am most proud of is how far I have come. In high school my GPA was below a 2.0 because I was a class clown and very unmotivated. None of the classes caught my attention/interested in school. I was very close to getting expelled before the principle called me into the office. He wanted me to do something with my “energy”. In and around school I was always mimicking or pretending to be a character/person just to get laughs. So, my principal suggested I try out for the school play. At first, I rejected the opportunity because I wasn’t very interested in it back then. I honestly thought it was kind of lame. However, I’ve had a script in my hand ever since that moment. Some of the challenges I have face is the roles I have come across. Living in Arkansas there aren’t many roles for black actors to audition for……. And normally it’s one role here or there. The biggest lesson I have learn is to be kind to people. You never know what people are going thru at home. Mental health is very important and being kind to people can help strengthen that. In conclusion I want the world to know that I’m a storyteller creating stories that will inspire! Uplift! and motivate the world we live in every day.
Don’t wait for an opportunity……. CREATE ONE!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some fun and interesting things to check out for me would be pinnacle mountain. It’s a fun way to get your “steps” in. Great hiking trails and an even better view. In my opinion if you are looking for some where to eat and drink Flying fish is where you need to be. They have really great food, and the margaritas are the best in town. Also, if you are looking for some fun The Pocket Park is a great way to have some fun in central Arkansas. Day parties are typically here, and they have some beautiful murals as well.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my parents Keith and Katina Harper.
Also, a special shoutout to Shun B for everything he does and connecting me to Shoutout DFW.
