We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaylin Nikole and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaylin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Well, I started in Charlotte,NC making candles during the rise of COVID. I designed the labels, promo, marketing and of course the actual candle. I saw how black owned virtual businesses were booming but the marketing and customer service was lacking. I fell out of love with candles despite the money but fell deeper in love with content creation. My degree is in Public Relations and I always held the social media chair positions in organizations . So I knew I could lend my services to other businesses and brands. That is what birthed Kaylin Nikole Consulting!
What should our readers know about your business?
I am most proud about coming from a state 15 hours away to Dallas and working hard to get where I’m at now. I have a lot of work to do but God brought me to Dallas for a reason. Like I stated watching my parents work for themselves, I always knew that was the goal. I already had the idea…I just needed the platform. It has been FAR from easy. The industry is so watered down.
Everyone thinks they are a content creator but my actual 9-5 & business is content creation. Granted I’m still green to the industry but some people do not take me serious. I say “oh I do content” and get that “ohhh okay” look so I follow up with “no my actual salary job and personal business is content creation”. Respect us that are literally studying the craft, watching videos, educating ourselves.
I have learned and still learning is being consistent and stay true to you. I know who I am as a woman. My content reflects that which is my silly, food loving, and fashionable self.
I want the world to know, I will be a household name. I want to gain so much knowledge that I can bless others and help another brown face in this industry. Remember Kaylin Nikole!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Whew, so let’s say this is a Saturday. Brunch, Dahlia for the food then heading to support my guy Steve at Dallabasas which is at Ten:01 Bistro. Leave that and head to Harlowe. Close out at Bitter!
But we are not done there is this small diner who’s name I cannot remember in Addison that has good food.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents! Being raised by entrepreneurs has definitely cultivated my viewpoint on being a true go-getter. I know that being a business owner has the gains of freedom, flexibility, and credibility. On the other hand you have to push yourself to show up for yourself every single day. Your name is on the line so you have to work to create the foundation for your future.
