We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsay Kline and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsay, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Every successful entrepreneur has become comfortable with risk, to at least some degree. Starting and maintaining a business is inherently risky. I have high risk tolerance and that is probably because I have intentionally determined to fail more, knowing that I will learn more from my failures than I will from my successes. The most successful people in the world have been propelled by a string of failures.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have always dreamed of building my own business. After spending years in corporate, that desire only grew and it developed into a dream to grow a business that inspired and empowered the employees working for me. I had a vision for people working from home (before that was cool) and on their own schedule. Basically, a place where they could have the flexibility that a self-employed person had with the perks of having a W2 position. I am thrilled that the dream has become a reality. We have a team of seven (and counting) who all work remotely from home and set their own schedules.

We are a bookkeeping firm and our tagline is “Honest Accurate Bookkeeping Performed on Time,” which addresses the three major pain points that I kept hearing from business owners about their former bookkeepers — that they were dishonest, inaccurate, or not performing the work on time. Those are the three cornerstones that we strive to fix for the small business owners that we service.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite things about Dallas Texas is our food scene, so some good restaurants would definitely be on the agenda — Hutchins, Smokey Rose, Anaya’s Seafood Kitchen, Knife, and so many others! A spa day at King’s spa, overnight trip to Gaylord Texan, sightseeing trip to the Reunion Tower in downtown Dallas would also be on the agenda.

Alright, so let’s jump right in! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there a person, group, organization, book, etc. that you want to dedicate your shoutout to? Who else deserves a little credit and recognition in your story?
The very first week I was in business myself — the very first week I did not have a W2 paycheck — there was a huge ice storm that shut our power down. I had no power, no heat, and no internet. All of the plans I had to accomplish during my first week of business completely were shattered. At first, I was a bundle of anxiety, but I finally decided to make the best of it and start working my way through the pile of books next to my bed that I had been wanting to read, but never seemed to have the time. The book I picked up first was “The Slight Edge,” about the concept of improving a little bit each day, by marginal amounts. That book helped me to put everything in perspective, seeing that my big goals were only going to be accomplished on step at a time, day by day.
