We had the good fortune of connecting with Morgan Loftin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Morgan, what do you attribute your success to?
We’ve built out brand our three major pillars: Education, Aesthetic, and Quality
Education: when you purchase a butterfly from us, we’ve made it our job to ensure you know the name, origin, behaviors, fun facts, etc. Our goal is that you leave with a wealth of knowledge to share with your friends and family as they come over and see your new art! Our pollinators are so important, as well as micro farming!
Aesthetic: We pin our own insects, and we take our time to do this as clean and elegant as possible. We take the time to hydrate and move every digit of spider legs too! These little things go the extra mile and set us apart from other artists in the industry. We’ve coined the term “ghost mount” where our insects appear to be floating in the frame! I also try to keep a clean, modern, look, that’s style fluid. We have gothic, Victorian clients, and farmhouse, midcentury modern clients too!
Quality: We guarantee our insects last. If anything happens, call us and we’ll repair or replace. It’s that simple.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We’re most excited about our future and expanding. We have dreams of teaching workshops on bug pinning, educating schools and classrooms about micro-farming, and mostly selling our artwork across the nation. We’re in the works of building an actual butterfly conservatory where you can visit and see live butterflies, and then shop our artwork at the gift -shop. We’re already on our way with whole selling, but I’d love to get to a point where I can focus solely on making custom pieces, large, crazy pieces that we can’t commit time to right now.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ooo Denton is the best! I moved here to go to school and could never leave! Food: We’d hit the insurgent food truck for dinner! Then go get drinks from Cassie at JK Lounge. Did you know she makes her own syrups? Hang out: Def could spend an evening in recycled books, cruising books and records. My husband and I live close to downtown, so we walk the square often to people watch too. We’re so busy with the business, and our baby, that these simple nights out are the best.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Micah Strafford, my husband, and co-owner. He’s the muscle behind our success. He pushes us outside of our comfort zones to try new things and grow where otherwise I’d probably be too scared. He’s incredibly driven, and creative, and we love working together!
