We had the good fortune of connecting with Matt & Jacqueline Marciante and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Matt & Jacqueline, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We both felt like we had more to contribute, both strategically and creatively, than what we were able to exercise in our corporate roles. We also both had a passion for fashion and footwear, and saw an opportunity in that space to create a little more customer conscious brand that focused on quality and craftsmanship without price gouging with luxury brand names. Those two main elements kind of came together at just the right time, and we started working on it. In a few short months, Marciante and Company was born!
What should our readers know about your business?
We have a small, pretty lean team where everyone wears several different hats. We love it that way because we maintain strong relationships, and a family environment while we’re working. Our team is phenomenal and everyone works so hard to make both of our brands great each and every day. It’s not super conventional to run two different brands under the same roof, especially one of them that requires manufacturing in-house, but we have found a way to organize our shop, production schedule, and team dynamic in a way that allows us to be strong and very efficient as we continue to grow!
Both our brands are in the leather footwear and accessories space. Marciante and Company is more on the fashion side with shoes, boots, bags, and a little bit of apparel. Mission Leather Co is highly functional with MacBook and iPad sleeves, wallets, keychains, etc. We share the same values with both, being that quality is king and we want to offer top end products and a more reasonable price than a lot of our competition. “Leather for the People”
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
That’s tough because Dallas (DFW) is so spread out! But if we’ve got a full week…and assuming they have never been to the area before, then we’ve got to spend a day in Fort Worth. The stockyards, Heim BBQ, 7th Street, Avoca Coffee would be some key stops along with a quick shop at Morgan’s Mercantile. Another day would be dedicated to Frisco/Plano area to show them The Star for the Cowboys experience, shopping, and some good food and drinks. Also Legacy West would be a key destination; Neighborhood Goods is a must, and plenty of great food and drink options at Legacy Food Hall.
The remaining 3 days we’d spend in our favorite parts of Dallas. Oak Cliff/Bishop Arts area for coffee, food (emporium pies obviously), drinks and live music. East Dallas would be next with Jimmy’s Food Store, and then some time spent on Lower Greenville. Terilli’s is a favorite of ours and where we had our first date! Then Greenville Ave Pizza Co followed by Milk and Cream would give a heart attack but also a truly great food experience. The last day could be split between Knox/Henderson and Downtown, for more shopping, art and coffee at The Joule, a waffle from Otto’s and impromptu photoshoot at The Adolphus, more food (lot’s of food in this itenerary…) and cap it all off with some cocktails at Beverly’s.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We’d like to credit both father figures in our lives for our work ethic, entrepreneurial spirit, and drive to make something great. It’s thanks to both of them that we are the people we are today. Matt’s father, and Jacqueline’s late grandfather; we love them both and are so thankful for their influence.
