We had the good fortune of connecting with CC the Great and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi CC the Great, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The most important lesson that my business has taught me is to fail forward. Failure is part of success. I don’t even like the word failure because you do not fail, You only fail if you give up. Allow those “failures” to catapult you forward. Learn from those mistakes. Never give up and get back in the lab and try again. For example with my number 1 international bestselling book Girl, Hold Your Own Damn Purse! A guide to becoming responsible for yourself. This book went number 1 in less than 8 hours on release day. Most people do not know it but that book was my second book. My first book was Hair University, a text book that I wrote when I made history as the first professor of cosmetology for Tarrant County College. Hair University did not go number one or best seller, I thought it would make an impact because of what I contributed to the hair industry. I thought it would be well received, but it sold a few copies and then went on. There was really nothing more done with it or my cosmetology program at TCC. Let me tell you I did not give up, A few years later I realized that I was stifled emotionally. I love people but I was recycling toxic relationships. I went on a journey of self discovery, A journey to understand why I thought I needed the praise, approval, or the attention of others. In that process I learned that I was carrying other people’s burdens. Thusly birthing the Girl, Hold Your Own Damn Purse movement, Now I am a 2 time number one bestselling author. I released the second book to the Girl, Hold Your Own Damn Purse series subtitled a guide to healing yourself. This book went number one in 4 hours and 30 minutes on release day 11.11.2021 for new release in codependency!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a serial entrepreneur. If there was a picture next to the phrase “never give up” you would see a picture of me. I am a firm believer that if no one gives you a seat at the table that you should build your own. I got where I am today because I never give up. I am a master hairstylist, salon owner, licensed faith-based counselor, bestselling author, philanthropist , a mother , and wife, and balancing all of this is challenging, but I am up for the challenge. This summer alone I went through the most challenging time of my life. I lost 61 pounds by eating clean and walking daily. I decided to get a tummy tuck to remove the extra skin and almost died. My tummy tuck had developed fat necrosis and became septic. I had to have my stomach cut open. The wound was the size of a football. I had to be placed on a wound vac for 6 weeks. I literally fought for my life and was unable to be “CC the Great” or so I thought. I was sad and depressed. However something in me would not let me stay down and defeated. I turned my trauma into triumph and began to share my story to offer hope to women who have gone through the same thing that I had gone through and felt alone. My inbox was flooded with overwhelming support and stories from people who felt ashamed and lost from a tummy tuck or surgery gone wrong. I was able to encourage them that it will get better and that they will heal. I began to write my second book to the Girl, Hold Your Own Damn Purse! A guide to healing yourself, The CC the Great brand and the Girl, Hold Your Own Damn Purse movement is about encouraging someone else, and walking alongside my sisters to help them make it through in this thing we call life. I am a master hairstylist, a salon owner in Arlington Texas, educator, licensed faith-based counselor, speaker, and a number one international bestselling author, and it is all because of my love for others. We were sent here to help someone else. If I can just help one person, I know I am on the right path.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many fun places to visit in my hometown of Fort Worth Texas. We most definitely would hit up West 7th street, They have the best day parties, restaurants, and nightlife. I would also take them to visit the Fort Worth Stockyards. It’s a world of its own. The Fort Worth Museum and Zoo are award winning and breathtaking. If they are in town on January 22,2022 I would invite them to Girl, Hold Your Own Damn Purse! The Party: Brunch Edition. I have a live panel discussion, 5 star breakfast, cash bar, shopping, and live music. There is a link below with more details!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am so grateful for Dr. Murray Bowens, Jerry Wise, and Dr, Paul Warren. These three helped me to understand systems feelings. I would also like to shout out Kyren Felder my dearest friend he has supported me through everything.
