When I was in cosmetology school all of the teachers would discourage anyone from going out on their on immediately after becoming licensed. They encouraged us to work at a more conventional “chain” in order to get more hands on experience. I personally believe that if you are ready to work hard and put your all into your work, that you can immediately go out on your own. It’s definitely hard but very rewarding. Read more>>

I wouldn’t necessarily say I completely disagree with it but I tend to ignore this industry “rule” of sticking to one niche. I love photographing weddings and couples BUT I also love photographing families. When I started my business I found that most photographers focus on one or the other.
