We had the good fortune of connecting with Zachary Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zachary, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Its the only thing I have full control over. I can be anything or be anywhere, In this world or the next. The imagination is a endless resource just alot of people lose touch with it in the everyday hussel and bussel of life. It flies by if your arent careful. I have always used art as an outlet. Drawing or doodling on anything since I was a kid, getting points taken off school work becuase I’d add a little flavor to the edges. Its was a way to escape and drown out the outside world or to calm my mind so I can focus. Ive always had a restless mind. Art is what keeps me level headed. It first started off with Skucci Skateboards and since then I have been able to branch off and create Black Sheep Branding. I create digital art, shirt designs, custom paintings, logos, etc. for people outside the skateboading industry.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

Honestly, i dod not consider myself a artist. I see some of the stuff these people put out and im like damn I wish I could do that, but ive got my own niche and style. I found something Ive enjoyed doing since I was young and have stuck with it for so long, that I think I am now decent enough at it that people dig it. Im self taught in everything, besides the basic art you learn in school (that i cant rememeber), from digital art, logo building, shirt designs, everything, I did on my own. I want everything to be perfect and sometimes that is a flaw and ill spend to much time on one thing or over thinking another.
How did I get to where I am today?
I had a friend hit me up one day and was like “hey I want to start a skateboarding company and I want you to be my partner and artist”. I skated back in the day, but like i mentioned before if you arent careful, life flies by. I had a solid year where I was just posting drawings I did at work in paper with pencil and pen and he was feeling it and asked me. Now here we are 2 years later selling out of every order, in multiple stores in the DFW area, N.C., and talks with others im a couple different states and crossing the U.S. border into Canada and now im the owner of Skucci LLC.  Its been a pretty wild ride. Im naturally a introvert but this has led me to meet alot of cool new people and open up a little more. The first logo I ever built for someone was for Official Military Skate, and it was really a honor being asked by them. I was fresh out of the gate and since then I formed Black Sheep Branding as a little side hustle, and thats kinda turned into something itself. It has opened up a lot of new doors for me and i hope that now, at 33, i can finally get my act together and be my own boss and get out of the industrial life ive been in.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a pretty chill person, im not one for crowds but there is def enjoy live music. Be it large venues or small. Music is what helps me begin my journeys. It sets the tone and the vibe. I miss playing live shows. Being a front man in a band was something ill never forget nor the dudes I shared the stage with. There are alot of cool things to do in the area DFW has really grown up. Even the suburban areas are pretty live. Id probably start off and see if any events are going on in the area and start with that. There is plenty of options. Im always down to just kick it, throw back some whiskey and just vibe with each other.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost my wife, Cori, she has stuck with me through thick and thin. Weve grown up together. Started dating 15 years ago and have been married 10. I wouldnt be where I am today with out her continuous support and belief in me even when I have none for myself and I literally owe my life to her. (For real I almost died in july) She is my rock. My 2 boys Waylon and Memphis, and my daughter Evan, everything I do is for them, I want them to never be in need and I hope that through all my hard work and late nights, i can show you hard work does pay off. If you want something go for it, the only failure is never trying. Also the rest of my family. You guys have always been there and put up with me during my wild years and bad choices, youve always supported me. I love you all. Thank you for never giving up on me.
