We had the good fortune of connecting with Ruthie Murry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ruthie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It has been my dream to own and operate a bakery since childhood. Since then, my whole life’s trajectory has been aimed towards this dream. I started cooking and baking on my own in middle school and I took culinary classes in high school. I graduated from Johnson & Wales University in 2015 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Baking & Pastry Arts and Food Service Management. After meeting my husband, he encouraged me to quit my corporate desk job and pursue my dream by opening a bakery from home. After nine months of being open from home, we got the opportunity to open our brick-and-mortar store. It wasn’t really a thought process as much as it was a life’s calling.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a small bakery located in Old Town Burleson. We specialize in cookies and bars, but we also offer a variety of candies, mini pies, cake cups, and banana pudding. We also take custom orders for decorated sugar cookies, brownie cakes and pies, cookie cakes, and cupcakes.

What sets us apart from others is our daily specials. Between 3 and 4pm, we announce our specials on Facebook. Our specials are items that we do not have every day, so there is a limited amount. We are always trying new things and listening to what our customers are requesting. It helps keep me from getting bored in the kitchen and allows me to play with different ingredients and flavors and work creatively. We are very proud of our original creations and are always looking to try new things!

We got to where we are today by serving homemade, scratch made baked goods and offering excellent customer service. We don’t skimp on ingredients, and the hard work of making everything on site from scratch is worth every minute when you are able to bring a smile to someone’s face. We enjoy getting to know our customers and are genuinely invested in their lives. Getting to where we are now was not easy. Within five months of opening, Covid happened. We are thankful that we were able to persevere through all the challenges that were thrown our way and come out on the other side.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Burleson is so fortunate to have such a large variety of restaurants all over town, especially in Old Town Burleson. There is plenty of shopping available in the area, as well the family-friendly Mayor Vera Calvin Plaza that was recently completed. There is always something to do in Old Town!

If we were to venture up towards Fort Worth, we would definitely be stopping by Morgan’s Ice Cream on Main St. They offer several gluten free and vegan ice cream flavors, but a majority of their non-vegan, non-gluten free ice creams contain baked goods from Murry Bakery! We are proud to be a part of another awesome woman-owned business!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I have to give all the credit and glory to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He is the one who put this calling on my life and without Him, I don’t know where I’d be.

Second, my husband, Jarod Murry, is responsible for the beginning of Murry Bakery. If he hadn’t done the research on cottage bakeries and operating from home, I would have never had the courage to do this. He has been my rock and my encourager. He has helped take our bakery to places I never dreamed of and I wouldn’t be able to do this without him.

I would like to thank my family for their continuous love and support. Thank you for supporting my dreams and making them come true.

And lastly, I would like to thank our amazing customers. Each one of you that walks through our door is a blessing. We are so thankful for you and really wouldn’t be where we are without you!
