We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela von Weber-Hahnsberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angela, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
I would definitely say the biggest lesson I’ve learned, both from my career prior to starting my business and now my experience as a business owner, is the importance of having an amazing team. Especially in a small business where you may only have a handful of employees or freelancers working for you, every one of them needs to be the perfect fit – and in my experience, if you can put together the right team, you’re unstoppable!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
You know how there are places you can go to buy clothes off the rack – and they can be great, and work fine for some people, but they’re never quite tailored to an individual? And then there are places where you can have clothes custom made, tailored to fit YOU, exactly – and those are the outfits that stop people in their tracks when they see you, because that individual tailoring makes such a huge difference?

Manoula Marketing is basically the custom tailor of the marketing world. What we do is take your business’s measurements, so to speak, and then custom create a unique marketing strategy designed to give YOUR business the best results, based on your audience, your goals, and your brand. We don’t push a “secret formula” or “proprietary system” that we swear works for every company – we know that every business is unique and tailor your marketing plan accordingly.

Spending that much time working individually with each client means that we develop close relationships, even true friendships with them. Those relationships – plus our consistent results – are the reasons why our clients stick with us for years. The story of Manoula Marketing is really the story of good friends working together for mutual success – and we keep adding more friends all the time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh man – my answers might be different from the usual restaurants and bars, because I and most of my friends AND clients are parents. So if I were entertaining them for a week, we’d definitely go heavy on the kid-friendly activities. We’d take a trip to the Dallas Zoo, which will always have a special place in my heart for their amazing Junior Zookeeper youth volunteer program that my son participated in for years… We’d take an awesome nature walk around White Rock Lake, and bring along a picnic lunch… We’d check out the Perot Museum and the Dallas World Aquarium, and head to Fair Park for some fun with swan boats and butterflies.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I had a dream once where a terrible storm was coming, and I had to save my family. I ran around gathering my 4 kids and husband into this rickety little go-kart that I had to pedal, and then I began bringing them all to safety, pedaling furiously up one massive hill after the next while the storm clouds gathered behind us. In the dream, I started congratulating myself for being able to make it up those hills carrying all 6 of us, all through the strength of my pedaling – it seemed so easy! Then I glanced behind me as I tackled the next steep hill – only to see that my husband had quietly jumped out of the go-kart and had been pushing us all from behind the entire time.

That’s pretty much a perfect metaphor for the way my husband Richard has supported me in my business (and in our family!). Of course I’ve had to hustle, but he’s always been there supporting me – just quietly doing whatever needed to be done. Without his help, I wouldn’t have a marketing agency. From being my best sounding board for new ideas or problems, to playing with the kiddos while I get work done, he is the reason it’s possible for me to run a business.
