We had the good fortune of connecting with BJ Garrett and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi BJ, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
My life’s purpose, my ministry, and my business are to help offer hope,
healing, and heart restoration to those who have been traumatized by
abuse, abortion, and from working in the adult entertainment industry.
Brokenness is universal and offering hope by sharing my life’s
experiences, along with offering resources, to those hurting is
essential to mending lives and families.
When people are healed from their past traumas, they are better spouses,
parents, children, siblings, employees, employers, and community
leaders.
Inspiration spreads and changes lives. My goal is to inspire.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am most proud of my Memoir; Unwanted No More, From Exploited to
Embraced by God which just won the 2021 Selah award in the Memoir
division.
One of my proudest accomplishments is that though I only completed
school through the 8th grade and had my first child at 15 years old, I
was able to graduate from seminary Suma Cum Laude while working and
caring for my family. Serving in full-time ministry as a female in the
local church and outside ministries has been equally challenging and
rewarding. I have served on the board of directors for various
ministries, in leadership in nearly all areas of church ministry, and
currently run a fast-growing 501C3 nonprofit.
Work hard, play hard, stay loyal, honor God, love big, forgive deep, and
never stop learning and growing. These are my most valuable learned life
lessons.
I want the world to know that no matter what you have done, no matter
what has been done to you, there is hope and healing through Jesus
Christ.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would have a full-day visit to Six Flags. We would lay out at the
pool, laugh the night away, talking and acting like silly school girls.
We would also visit Magic Time Machine with our grandchildren and most
definitely shout for our Knight at Medieval Times. If we are the
luckiest girls in the world, Wicked would be showing and we would have
front row seats!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
CARE: My non-profit that gave me my first platform to offer hope and
healing to those hurting.
Karen: My friend who believed in my story and helped make it possible to
publish my book.
Naomi and Terri: For praying for me, believing in me, and always being
there as I navigate through this adventure called life.
Redemption Press: For believing in my story and making my book “Unwanted
No More” a reality.
Jay Garrett: My husband. For always cheering me on, never being ashamed
or embarrassed of me or my crazy ideas. For loving me and standing
beside me through all that life has thrown at us.
“Mandy”: My big sister who protected me, raised me, and continues to
support me.
