Meet Shay Banks | Social Media Strategist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shay Banks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shay, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’d always wanted to be an entrepreneur. In the first grade I tried network marketing and would try to sell my products to any adult that would listen to me. Fast forward a few decades and that entrepreneurial bug was still gnawing at me.
I started my business in 2008 at first as a hobby. When I started out online I was a dating coach for single women. After my first 18 months or so of generating a pretty solid client base, steady sales, and a decent email list, I started researching on ways to scale up. Meanwhile, my job as a teacher was becoming more and more stressful and I was quickly falling out of love with it. So my intention to scale up was really so I could quit my job. It was through the process of scaling up that I discovered social media marketing and online advertising. A whole new world opened up for me.
About a year, almost two years later, I was able to quit my job as a teacher and work my business full-time. Except, my business had transformed from dating coach to online traffic consultant for other influencers and entrepreneurs. And that’s what I’ve been doing every since, helping people get online traffic to their website.
What should our readers know about your business?
What sets me apart from other social media strategists is that I actually don’t care about getting you likes or increasing your follower count as an end goal. I care about getting you leads.
Leads are the bread and butter to any successful business. Without consistent leads, you have no business.
So my strategy is more leads driven and less “let’s make your ego feel good by getting you a million followers.”
Because of that, my clients end up with actually seeing cashflow after working with me. Whether it be my client in South Carolina who landed an interview on a local news station because she simply worked my Facebook strategy or my most recent client who got people enrolled in her first online course or my client who used my Facebook Group strategy to get her first patient, my goal is always to help my clients get a cashflow win.
I know if they can get one cashflow win, they’ll start to believe in my process, and their apprehension goes down. Then they can just lather, rinse, and repeat the process and get more predictable income.
My process is not sexy. It’s not even fun. But it’s a solid, predictable, non-algorithm-centric approach to getting leads from social media.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Assuming this is in a covid-safe world….
Well first and foremost, they would have to go a sporting event. I don’t care if it’s Dallas Mavs, Dallas Stars, Texas Rangers, or The Cowboys, seeing a sporting event live is a must.
From there, there’s so much to do.
I would take them downtown to Dallas Museum of Art (DMA). There’s a meetup group that does a Naked Brunch and Scavenger Hunt at the DMA. I would totally take them to that. If that wasn’t available, then a Friday Night at the Museum is a must. There is just so many cool things that happen at that event.
A stroll around Klyde Warren park or having a nice lunch is a must.
I’d take them to some cute little stores and boutiques in Bishop Arts District.
And if this were during the summer time, they would have to come get their dance on at Salsa in the Park in Addison.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There’s a lot of people that have contributed to my success. It literally takes a village to influence and build an entrepreneur. First and foremost would be my late, great mom, Anita Banks. I remember her always hustling and working side jobs for extra income. Her drive and determination are two characteristics that have definitely influenced me and how I operate in my life.
I’m a bookworm so I read a ton of books every year. One book that I re-read every year is PscyhoCybernetics by the late Dr. Maxwell Maltz. It’s such a great book and has really made an impact on my life. Atomic Habits is quickly becoming a book I need to re-read every year as well.
Also a shout out to my support system who is always there for me when I need to vent, laugh, cry, or celebrate: Ray Banks, Charlene Kugle, Gwen Neal, Regina Neal, Mavis Neal, Tiffany Beverly, Shanitsha Jones, Jessica Harris, Sarah Sulaiman, Angel Radcliffe, and Eloisa Ibarra.
