We had the good fortune of connecting with Kylie Mills and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kylie, how do you think about risk?
I think many people spend so much time trying to avoid risks that they miss out on many great opportunities. Don’t get me wrong, it’s important to weigh the pros and cons of these decisions and try to mitigate where you can, but risk doesn’t always need to be linked to uncertainty.

Risks have surrounded my entire life and career. I spent the first few years of my career in politics and since then have been in the advertising and PR world. Two career paths riddled with risks. While I worked to avoid any heartache, I have to be honest and say that some of those risks, both professionally and personally, didn’t work out. But, for every one chance that didn’t work in my favor, I’ve had three that have.

All in all, I don’t regret any of the risks that I have taken. For those that didn’t work out or failed, I learned from those and applied those experiences to my next venture or project.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been in the advertising/PR world since 2017; before then, I was in politics. Making the jump from being a politico to this world was a strange one for me, but I’m glad I did. I always wanted to work for an agency, but DC wasn’t going to allow me the experience I was looking for. So, after a night at Taco Heads with Lauren Bogle, resumes were sent out, and it was decided that I was going to do everything I could to get to Fort Worth and work at an agency. Since then, I have worked in agencies in Fort Worth and New Orleans.

I am currently the Director of Content and Strategy for the Bogle Agency in Fort Worth. Working for an agency that represents a diverse portfolio of clientele has been an exciting challenge.

Getting to this point in my career has been a learning experience. I once had a boss that lived by the term “teachable moments,” and while I can say that I hated that term at the time, I have tried to learn from all those things (both good and bad) and apply those daily.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I don’t get to spend as much time in Dallas as I’d like, so I’m going to have to go with what I know, which is Fort Worth. I’m pretty laid back and prefer staying in versus going out, so I’d say the perfect outing would be grabbing brunch somewhere like Fred’s, then either go browsing somewhere at a store like Old Home Supply off of College Street, shopping in the unique storefronts in Southside,or hitting up a museum, before grabbing a coffee from Fort Worth Coffee Co and heading home.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this to everyone I have worked for, including my current boss and friend, Lauren Bogle. As cliche as it sounds, the experiences that all of these people have given me have made me who I am today, and I can’t thank them enough for those.
