We had the good fortune of connecting with Marlenn Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marlenn, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I would say the most important factor for my success would be being passionate about what I do. You have to love your job in order to be successful and represent your brand. I look forward to going into work everyday and my clients can see how dedicated I am to providing an experience and executing my work.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started with Lorena last year during this whole pandemic! It was very challenging just because everyone was scared to go out at the time. Although I was licensed, hair coloring was something I struggled with and didn’t understand at the time, but my boss is a color specialist so she saw potential in me. I shadowed her for a few months until I was able to be promoted to level 1 stylist. I was so excited to begin taking my own clients! I was able to attend a business seminar with my boss and one thing I see a lot of stylists struggle with is guidance and understanding the business side of our career. There is a system to making money in this industry but not all of us are determined to put in the work. It’s a lot of social media, marketing and providing an experience for our guests. Another thing I learned at the seminar is being okay with losing clients, I know this is a hard one for a lot of people because we hate to see people leave but it’s a statistic that we are constantly losing clients so we constantly have to market ourselves to gain new ones as the old ones leave and our prices change. That was probably a big challenge for me and still is because you have to be consistent with social media and sometimes we just get comfortable and think we’re at a good spot with our clients and we don’t need new ones but that is wrong. What I want the world to know about my story and brand is that anything is possible when you set your mind to it! I like to think that I am very ambitious and I have a positive mindset, Anything I want I am able to get because I am constantly motivating and challenging myself to reach my goals! I believe anybody can achieve what they want in life you just have to be willing to put in the work and prove how bad you want it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would say if anybody came to Fort Worth I would definitely recommend checking out The Social House or First Watch for brunch! I like going to the stockyards to day drink or to explore the night life. If you’re not into country music you can always check out 7th street especially during the day there are a lot of cute places to eat and hole in the walls.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My boss Lorena Moreno has definitely helped shape me into the stylist I am today. I can honestly say she has helped build me from the ground up and I’ve had many amazing opportunities being by her side to learn and expand my knowledge. She pushes me out of my comfort zone because she knows what I am capable of doing and trusts me!
