We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Culver Knighton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Authenticity and Innovation are the values that guide every decision we make for Herb & Alchemy.
We didn’t start this business to be a mobile bar. We started this business to solve a customer need. Authenticity to us means that we are not going to sacrifice our principles to fit the mold of being a mobile bar in the event industry. We use real glassware because we hate to think of all the plastic generated by the event industry. We also use only naturally compostable straws because we believe in doing our part for the environment. We craft our cocktails in real time at all of our weddings and parties, even though that requires a lower mixologists to guest ratio and increases our operating costs. We don’t use store bought syrups or juices because they are laden with preservatives, dyes and artificial coloring. While making gallons of syrup and juicing hundreds of limes, we keep our focus on our customer and strive to solve the need for an elevated mixology service with the wedding and event industry.
As far as innovation goes, we like to think we are disrupting the event industry by offering affordable and unique services and fresh takes on traditional cocktails. A few examples of this are on demand logo and monogram printing to the top of our cocktails. A spicy margarita that comes topped with a homemade mezcal blood orange whip cream and an option to have laser engraved cocktail stirrers with customized messages on them.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Herb & Alchemy is a craft cocktail mobile bar that seeks to elevate the cocktail experience for parties and events in the DFW area. We make our own syrups and juices, we use organic produce and avoid using plastic whenever possible. Our craft cocktails are always served in real glassware and we have over 18 types for our customers to chose from.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First stop would be a trip to Bird Bakery in Highland Park for the California Turkey Sandwich and a chocolate cupcake with strawberry frosting. Next up is Parliament for a round of Ramos Gin Fizzes! Then we are headed to The Magnolia in uptown to catch a movie. After, we eat some dinner at Drakes (the General Tso’s Cauliflower, the Pasta Za Za, a Drakes Old Fashioned and obviously the sky high strawberry cake). Then we end the night listening to jazz at Revelers Hall in Bishop Arts.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank my husband who works several full time jobs for Herb & Alchemy. On any given day, he is the head engineer, handyman, problem solver, cocktail tester, therapist and crisis counselor. It is only because of his support, hard work and resilience that Herb & Alchemy is able to be here today serving customers and elevating parties in the DFW area. I love you Ry ❤️
I would like to thank my cousin, Brittney Hernandez, for all of her genius with social media, design, graphics and organization. Somehow, she is able to take my crazy half baked ideas and turn them into a finished product. Herb & Alchemy would not be here today without all of your effort and support.
I would also like to thank all of the businesses that supported us and gave us opportunities. We could not have survived 2020 without the love we received from our community.
