We had the good fortune of connecting with Kay Litton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kay, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I think “Authenticity” is a huge factor behind the success I have had so far. I’ve always said that I’m just me, and that’s all I know how to be. I never put on a show or pretend to be something or someone that I’m not. I’m just myself! I think that shows through to people and makes me more relatable and approachable. Which is super important to me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Crazy Sock Lady started about 5 years ago on a complete whim. I had recently discovered the world of Knitting Podcasts on YouTube and wanted a way to connect with other knitters. So I just jumped right in. No goals, no thoughts of what it could be. Just hoped that I could meet some other knitters and make some friends! It slowly grew over the next couple of years and I eventually started designing knitting patterns, my main focus being socks. The thing that I feel really launched Crazy Sock Lady into a whole other level was Summer Sock Camp 2020. I had this crazy idea that I wanted to launch sock knitting tutorials as part of my YouTube channel and thought that a fun way to do it would be through a Virtual Summer Camp all about socks. Those tutorials and that camp just completely turned Crazy Sock Lady down this road that I never expected! I just set out to connect with other knitters and find people that were as passionate about sock knitting as I am and now here I am bringing knitters together from all over the world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in a smaller town called Centerville, OH. If my best friend was to come visit I would bring them to all of the local yarn shops, of course, because she is a knitter as well! Then I would take her to City BBQ for some good BBQ and Sweet Tea.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This was a tough one! There are so many people who have supported and encouraged me along the way. I don’t think I could pick just one. Hands down the people who follow me whether it be on YouTube or Instagram. The people who make it a point to comment and support me in the many things that I do. Those are the ones who deserve the extra credit and recognition. They are the reason why I’m still doing what I’m doing. And why I love what I do!
