We had the good fortune of connecting with Monique YeeFoon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Monique, what role has risk played in your life or career?
The very essence of being human is taking risks. As humans we take risk in education when we select institutions of higher learning hoping they give us the tools we need to succeed in life. We take on risk in love. But in business people tend to think avoiding risks is better. I feel you shouldn’t avoid risks but monitor them make and in some cases minimize them. The best risk I took was starting a business. I took the experiences and knowledge I obtained from working in the corporate environment and started a business. I felt depleted in the corporate environment. So I knew once I left l, I was not coming back. It was the best risk I had ever taken. I will say, taking risks will scare you to death but that is where you grow and that is where you conquer fear. In the end the best risk is when you invest in yourself.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
YeeFoon & Associates is a accounting firm in which I handle small business bookkeeping, taxes and day to day financial advice. I have individual clients, mostly small business. I love small businesses because I know the level of sacrifice, and heart and work it takes to make a business happen and I like to see small businesses succeed. I tend to work virtual but I’m very accessible to all my clients.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So, I work a lot when I do get to have fun normally it’s someone’s birthday or an event I get invited to. One day I guess I’ll take a break and take that vacation. So I would be the wrong person to ask where to hang out or have fun. I’m a workaholic.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people whose influences have contributed to the development of who I am. From Jay-Z to Oprah. But I would have to dedicate my shout out to Oprah Winfrey’s book “What I Know for Sure” the tools I have obtained are gems.
