Meet PaTi Currie | MUA/SFX

We had the good fortune of connecting with PaTi Currie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi PaTi, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
Growing up in Austin, my parents brought me up to embrace the arts. As early as I could remember, they taught me to appreciate books such as Aesop’s fables, Shakespeare and Edgar Allen Poe. The inclination towards art led me to dabble in the film industry, and it is through this that I cultivated an interest in special effects and makeup. As a woman of Latinx descent, I was taught to appreciate everyone’s background and the way in which they draw from that to create their work. I am very grateful to have been able to view the world through an artistic lens, which continues to inspire me to this very day.Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Nothing feels better than having the passion in life to do makeup. Keeping up with the latest trends goes without saying — but it goes much further than that. I love the fact that I’m empowering the people I work with; which includes but is not limited to: actors, actresses, musicians, and models. My love for what I do extends to the several distinct platforms I am fortunate enough to lend my talents to. I believe I am where I am in my career because I love being part of a team. It’s exciting to be able to work in many areas of the television industry; print, film, and commercial. There is a sense of fulfillment that comes from creating with clients to bring out their best during the process. Whether I’m working for a writer on their first film or with an actress on a commercial, I cherish my time spent with them; connecting with interesting humans is one of the biggest reasons I love doing what I do. It wasn’t easy at first; I had to strategically place myself in events to network with my peers, as well as work on un-paid gigs. I often look for charity events to gift my services to. Giving makes everyone feel good; The giver and the receiver. I have enjoyed volunteering and donating to local charities; it means a lot to me. It’s a small gesture that makes a big impact, such as being a part of a fashion show for your local battered women’s shelter, as well as working events for Big Brother, Big sister.Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Our journey would begin by checking out our local costume shop on South Congress, Lucy’s In Disguise With Diamonds. Afterwards, we enjoy some coffee at Mozart’s Coffee Roasters while listening to local musician Sheilava. Then, it’s off to Lake Travis for some kayaking to work off the Franklin’s BBQ we pre-ordered. Since we are in a musical mood, we stop by Waterloo Records, a record shop with an extensive selection of vinyl’s and CD’s. We find ourselves hankering for a snack, so we go by Antonelli’s to enjoy one of their many cheesy delights. Still wanting to indulge our taste-buds, we head to Kura, ordering sushi off of a conveyer belt while we earn points for cute anime keychains. Afterwards, we have a couple of drinks at Lala’s Little Nugget, a strip mall tavern which doesn’t disappoint, satisfying our urge for Christmas. Finally, we cap off the evening by chilling out to some Jonny Cash music at Mean-Eyed Cat.Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have been fortunate to have worked with so many supportive artists , and would like to thank Candice Ghai Photography who has been a vital source of inspiration and has helped me flex my creativity with no limits, Hristiana Soula has been a source of encouragement and moral support through out the pandemic. It’s been a Joy to meet and work with the musical artist Wazabii a multi talented Puertorican singer-song writer. And Cheers to Sheila Victoria Anne has always been open creative spirit, from films to music videos its always a pleasure to work with her. These woman have been a constant source of inspiration on many creative levels. I am proud to have worked on projects with them and look forward to seeing us all evolve further in our respective industries.
