We had the good fortune of connecting with Bryan Asby and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bryan, what do you attribute your success to?
As a boy growing up my dad would play basketball with me in my room. Always the teaser, my dad would play in a manner that any child would find extremely frustrating. He would block all my shots or keep the ball away from me. He had all the advantages. The height, speed, knowledge, and coordination. Being 5 years old I do not remember any specific game, but I do remember this desire to beat him and I would tell myself all I needed was 1 more game to beat him. I believe these silly basketball games at home against a dad who would teasingly not let me win gave me a mental advantage. A competitive spirit along with a nemesis that would not surrender gave me mental fortitude to keep pushing. My advantage is even when I have lost, I feel tired, exhausted, and frustrated, my brain keeps repeating “you only need 1 more game”. This belief in myself at times does get me in trouble, but I also believe it is what has helped during the darkest of times as well. My brain accepts the fact that I missed the game winning shot, the fact that my lofty goal was not hit. Because I just need 1 more shot. Today my brain still works this way. I have recently started taking up Brazilian jujitsu and during training the loses pile up. the bruises add up, the frustrations keep trying to push me down, but my brain keeps on saying “just 1 more”. You know what that has provided for me? So many opportunities to test my skill, learn, and better myself with others who are far better than me. These opportunities to practice with more knowledgeable, experienced, quicker opponents has only enhanced my abilities. I have decided I can fail myself to success. Each failure is not easy, hurts my ego, can be painful, but I learn something each time. My success, our success comes from our energy to create 1 more opportunity to succeed. I honestly believe that if everyone just fought for 1 more opportunity, their success rate would be exponentially greater. We all can fail ourselves into success if we embrace “just 1 more” opportunity mindset.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a chiropractor that focuses on pediatric development, I certainly did not see myself here when I graduated from college. I’ve as had an inherent desire to be involved in the healthcare world, but did not where I would fit in. Sports were a large part of my youth and when I entered into chiropractic college I thought a sports clinic may be in my future. Turns out that I love neurology and I especially loving seeing children thrive. Wanting to always know why drove me to understand how this amazing little girl who came into our office with emotional control, academic, social, and sensory concerns was improving so much! I poured into understanding, why, how, and what was the best way to serve these families. In 2020 I have taken over 100 continuing education hours related to neurology, neurodevelopmental disorders, and therapies to help these amazing children. This certainly has not been a easy road, but it has been incredibly rewarding. When you see a 8 year old child that couldn’t ride a bike, tie their shoes, swing on a swing become able to do that, it is truly incredible. How could you not love doing this? Serving families with children who have neurodevelopmental, emotional, social, and academic concerns is my calling. I am blessed to have this opportunity and I want to be my best for them.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We are Texas as so our BBQ must is pecan lodge. Incredible Bbq, great atmosphere, and just a fun area to be. So many little local business surround it, its just a fun location. A few blocks away is the Deep Elm brewery. Deep Elm brewery is one of my favorite local breweries. Great beers, fun outdoor sitting where they have games and listen to music. For Dallas local eating we would go to Whiskey Cake. The ingredients are fresh & local. The whiskey cake is to die for, They have a great selection of drinks to sip during dinner. Of course if it summer we would go down to Addison circle. Delicious food, great outdoor area to eat, play catch, or just stretch your legs. Unless it is the 4th of July, in which case we are going to Kaboom town. Best fireworks show in DFW.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My great grandmother Audrey! She was the nicest and most caring woman. Incredibly encouraging, supportive, and loving. I did not realize it until later on, but she was also one of the toughest individuals I have ever met.
