We had the good fortune of connecting with ricardo paniagua and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi ricardo, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
It makes me happy when Im tagged online with pictures of people smiling standing with my public art works

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Years ago I was watching Antiques Roadshow and the assessment of a painting included a description of the artist and the appraiser referred to the artist as a high style outsider and that is exactly how i see myself. I dropped out of highschool the third month of 10 grade and that is all the education I have. My work deals with ideas in contemporary art that I’ve learned about thru my own research and so my work is purely a result of my own ideas in art instead of a brain washed artist who got a degree thru an art school. Im most proud of my achievements in exhibiting alongside some of my art heroes throughout the years. My path to what people see as successful was hard as the universities always rejected me as being relevant and so none of the good local galleries would never touch my work as I had no credibility within the upper echelon of social networks that be. It was only until I was selected by a blind juror who was with the Andy Warhol Foundation in 2011 in a statewide survey of contemporary art out side of Dallas where I live and work that the local art Nazis had to recognize me bad ass work.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Im not a good host I just take them to the local shitty dive bar

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I give a big shout out to my late mother who sent me off on a journey to discover art! Love you, mom!
