We had the good fortune of connecting with Shamari Pitts and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shamari, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is Jesus Christ. Without Him, and my faith in Him, my endeavors have no substantial purpose. In everything that I do, whether it be my businesses, authorship, professional career, ministry, or anything in which “success” may be measured, my aim is that the genuine love of God is experienced by the people I encounter. Lives are changed for the better when they experience this Love. What matters most to me is that I live out God’s plans for me. Success can look like many things, such as increase in reach or even in finances. As I and my brand continue to experience success and blessings, I’m committed to being an avenue He can use to bless and impact others.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business, Diasporic Dishes, was birthed from a passion in exploring cultural cuisine through a multi-ethnic perspective. I come from a household of two ethnic heritages; I am an African-American and Belizean-American woman. Growing up, I always felt like I was living in the “best of both (or two) worlds!”

As a young adult, this passion of exploration began, particularly in my college years, as I noticed how much I enjoyed connecting with and befriending people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. I loved cooking the foods of their countries and cultures while also sharing the foods from mine. Diasporic Dishes began those years ago, simply in the heart of the student-living kitchens of my friends and myself as we shared meals together. I started a social media vlog at that time for Diasporic Dishes where I could share everything I was learning about food and culture to the world. Face-to-face and even virtually, cuisine is one of the most meaningful ways to learn about other people and build bridges.

To expand reach and vision, Diasporic Dishes now offers individual plates and full catering services for events of all sizes. Every dish we create is a celebration of heritage, storytelling, and the flavors that connect us across the world.

Our mission even goes beyond the kitchen. In every dish, conversation, and event, we aim to reflect God’s love for all nations. Whether it’s a family gathering, corporate event, or community celebration, Diasporic Dishes brings global flavor, heartfelt hospitality, and a purpose-driven passion to every table.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love living in the DFW! Surprisingly, I am still getting familiar and exploring the area myself, but I have definitely enjoyed my journey so far in doing so! On an itinerary or trip to visit Dallas, I’d definitely start with a sightseeing tour agency such as In-City Wheels where you get to ride an electric bike all around the the city. I’ve done this tour a few times and had so much fun making stops around the major attractions of Dallas.

Next on the list would definitely be to spend time in one of my favorite areas within the DFW Metroplex, none other than Carrollton, TX! Even by a brief glance at my brand, you may know by now how much I appreciate culture. Carrollton is definitely a cultural hub! I’d be sure to come here and make time for food, fun activities, and even dessert. For food, one might hit up a Ramen or Korean BBQ spot. Some fun activity would be rug-tufting or walking through an Asian grocery market like H-Mart. You could end the night getting Korean dessert such as ah boong, Korean-style ice cream such as at Somisomi!

Over the weekend, I’d be sure to attend any sort of festival or large public event! I’ve really enjoyed attending the Black Rodeo or even any food or music festivals. Speaking of music, don’t forget worship nights and events! DFW has such a beautiful worship music and church scene for the community!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out Faith Filled Church in Lewisville, TX! Being surrounded by such a great community has been a huge contribution to where I am today. I am thankful for their love and support.
