We had the good fortune of connecting with Matthew Tederick II and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matthew, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The idea of running my own business never felt real to me growing up. I always pictured myself in the medical field, maybe as a doctor or a dentist. But when I got to college, I started to realize there were so many other paths I could take. That was the first time I really began to question what I wanted my career to look like.

In 2021, I was watching old home videos when a family member pointed something out that stuck with me. They noticed that I always wanted to hold the camera instead of being in front of it. It was such a simple comment, but it shifted everything. It made me see that I had always been drawn to creating, even if I didn’t know it at the time.

From then on, I started diving into videography. A close friend of mine already had his own company, and he showed me that running a business wasn’t as impossible as I once thought. He helped me realize that I didn’t need to rely on a boss to give me direction. I could step into that role myself.

In 2023, I finally did. I started my own videography company and began turning what had once been just an interest into something much bigger.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Most people step into photo and video as a hobby, something they do on the side. For me, the day I bought my first camera, I knew it was more than that. I knew I wanted this to be my career.

The opportunities that have come since then have been nothing short of a blessing. From touring with Marshmello to filming on a NASCAR track with a professional driver, I’ve never taken for granted the doors that have opened along the way.

What makes me different is the way I approach storytelling. I recently sat down to write a mission statement, and what stood out to me most was my calling. I realized I exist to tell people’s stories, every unique one. Whether that’s in music, sports, businesses, weddings, or any other space, I feel drawn to capture and share as many stories as I can. I don’t want to confine myself to a single niche. Creativity feels limitless, and I want to explore every corner of it.

That doesn’t mean the journey has been easy. People often say, “You’re lucky you don’t work a 9 to 5,” but in reality, I work around the clock. My phone is always on me, my email is constantly open, and my camera gear travels with me everywhere I go. It’s demanding, but the challenge fuels me. The chaos is what keeps me growing, learning, and pushing forward.

At the heart of it all is my faith. My brand, Version 2 Creative, carries a meaning that’s deeply personal. On one level, it reflects my name. I’m named after my father, and I take pride in being the second. But on a greater level, it reflects my belief that God always comes first. Everything else, including myself and my work, falls second to Him. That truth shapes not just my brand but the way I live and create.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many places I would take a friend visiting DFW. In Dallas, we’d hit some of the classics like the Katy Trail, the Botanical Gardens, and the Dallas Museum of Art. And of course, food has to be part of the experience. Even though I love cooking at home, there are a few spots I always want to share. Las Palmas and Hudson House are musts, and my favorite coffee shop, Pax & Beneficia, is at the top of the list.

And then there’s Fort Worth. The Stockyards on a weekend are unforgettable. If the timing was right, I’d hope to catch a rodeo and maybe even stop by Billy Bob’s. I don’t know as much about the food scene there, but that makes it even better. Exploring Fort Worth with a friend would be an adventure in itself.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m so grateful to my family for the endless support they’ve given me at the start of this creative journey. They’ve encouraged me every step of the way and countless times stepped in front of the camera for me as I was learning. I couldn’t have asked for a better foundation.

Also a huge shoutout to my best friend and mentor, Mason Dies of Jade Films. His patience and the time he’s invested in me have been a big part of my growth into the creative I am today.
