Meet Jessica Cramer | Executive Producer & Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Cramer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, why did you pursue a creative career?
I was an art major in college, with a concentration in printmaking. While I never saw myself having a career as a professional artist, I knew that I had to find a job in a creative industry, no matter what. I accidentally, and luckily, fell into an advertising job, and I knew instantly that this is the creative industry that I had been searching for. I love my job, I get to be creative every day, and I’m very thankful for it!

What should our readers know about your business?
I co-own and operate a film production & post production house in Dallas, TX called Equilateral. Growing a business is never easy. It wasn’t easy on Day 1, Day 365, or Day 1825 (aka 5 years later). I’m lucky to have a couple of friends who are also business owners, and they gave me great insight about how it it takes a good 5 years for a business to get its footing. I’m sure this is not the case for all businesses, but now that I’m 5 year in, I see what my business owner friends were referring to. We are stable, business is good, and we have repeat clients coming back for more! A big lesson I’ve learned along the way is patience. It’s important to be patient with yourself and with your business. Challenges will come up, you will move past these challenges, you’ll grow from these challenges, and learning to be patient through this process is key.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
During the days: Grab coffee at Houndstooth Go on a bike ride on the Santa Fe Trail See some art at the Nasher & the Dallas Contemporary Take a stroll through the Dallas Arboretum Grab a beer at local brewery And maybe even venture to Fort Worth for a day trip. During the evenings: Midnight Rambler for drinks and the best tater tots! Dinner at Uchi is a must Dinner at Jeng Chi, also a must Margaritas on the porch at Doce Mesas Cook a feast at home (one of my favorite things to do with friends!)

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Carol Pock is a dear friend of mine, and I’m very fortunate to call her my mentor too. When I decided to go out on my own and grow a business, I was scared shitless. I knew that I needed a mentor. On a whim, I asked Carol if she’d be interested in being my mentor. I look up to Carol and I very much value her experiences and knowledge in our industry. To my surprise, she said yes! I thought for sure she’d be too busy or uninterested. I was so thrilled that she took me on as her mentee, and I am forever grateful for the hours she spent with me, answering all my questions and giving me such great advice. Thank you, Carol, I love you to the moon and back!
