Meet Nicole McNamara | Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole McNamara and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Honestly it happened pretty organically! I never really saw myself as an “entrepreneur” type. When I first started out, I never expected it to be more than making a few cake pops here and there for friends and family. I always loved to bake growing up, and we had a small get-together for my sister’s baby shower in November of 2020 so I was in charge of desserts. That was my first time ever making anything custom to a specific theme, and I loved it! I started up an Instagram page shortly after, then as word spread and people outside of my close friends and family began reaching out for custom orders, I realized there was an opportunity to turn something I loved into more than just a hobby. I never imagined that five years later I’d leave my corporate job and be running this as a full-blown business!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
This may sound cheesy, but what I love most about cake pops is how something so small can bring so much joy. There’s always a reason for some sweets, so I’ve been able to play a small part in so many wonderful celebrations over the years. I feel like I’ve been able to grow with my customers too which is so special. From gender reveal cake pops to making cake pops for their kids’ birthdays over the years – I love being able to connect with my customers in that way!
I’m so proud of how this started as just a hobby and has grown into what it is today. It hasn’t always been easy—there have been (and still are) plenty of late nights and a lot of trial and error. But there’s also so much pride in looking back and realizing I built this from the ground up. That’s what keeps me going! One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that you don’t need to have it all figured out when you start—you just have to keep showing up for yourself, learning, and growing along the way. I’m also really proud of what I’ve been able to build on social media—something I never expected to become such a big part of this business. As my following began to grow on TikTok and Instagram in 2021, I started getting tons of questions about the products I use, tips, and techniques, so I began sharing more of that type of content. Four years later, that community has grown to over 1.1 million followers on TikTok. Many have since started their own cake pop businesses, created extra income for their families, or just discovered a fun activity to do together. We all know social media has its ups and downs, but for me it’s been an incredible blessing, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to inspire and connect with so many people.
What I want people to know about Main Street Sweets is that it’s about more than just cake pops. Every order represents someone’s special moment—a birthday, a wedding, a milestone—and I feel so lucky to be part of that. At the end of the day, my goal is to make something that not only tastes good but also adds a little extra joy to life’s celebrations!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oooh – we’d have to start the day with a coffee from Summer Moon, and then spend the afternoons either at Grandscape (Truck Yard is a personal favorite spot!), exploring The Star, or PGA! Dinner and drinks at Salsa Tex-Mex of course (you can’t come to Texas and not get tex-mex), and have to make time for Hutchins BBQ! For a fun night out we’d go to Eight11 Place in downtown Frisco for some live music and wine!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I feel like everyone in my life deserves a shoutout, I am so blessed with the best support system! I of course have to give a special shoutout to my mom and dad, and my sisters, Katie and Jess. From being professional taste testers to sharing all of my posts and spreading the word, they’ve been my biggest cheerleaders from the beginning! I also wouldn’t be here without my husband, Tim. He’s been the best sounding board through it all and knows way more about cake pops than any normal human should! And one last shoutout to my friends Amy and Nate, owners of Daisy Makes—their mentorship and encouragement gave me the push to take the leap from hobby to business and, eventually, to leave my full-time job and bet on myself. I truly wouldn’t be here without that kind of support.
