Meet Ariana Reyes | Licensed Cosmetologist & Wax Specialist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ariana Reyes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ariana, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
After years of working in different waxing chains, I started to feel like those environments just didn’t reflect who I was. A lot of them felt sterile and impersonal —bright fluorescent lights, all white everything… it felt more like a doctor’s office than a place to relax and feel taken care of. I wanted to create something completely different. I envisioned a space that felt warm, inviting, and comfortable, with dim lighting, LED lights, and a vibe that felt comfortable as soon as you walk in.
I also wanted the freedom to build a space that aligned with my personality and values. I found myself wanting to attract clients who vibe with me—people who value authenticity, comfort, and connection. Over time, I noticed I naturally connected with a lot of minority clients, especially within the Hispanic/Latino community. Being one of the only Spanish-speaking service providers at my previous salon made me realize how underserved that group was, but it also made me more aware of how important it is to make all minority clients feel seen and welcomed. Whether they’re Black, Middle Eastern, Latina, or anyone who’s ever felt overlooked in these spaces, I wanted to create a space where they feel at home.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a full-body waxer, with Brazilians being my specialty, and what sets me apart is the comfort and atmosphere I’ve created in my space. It’s not your typical bright, sterile waxing room. It’s warm, inviting, and full of personality. I’ve built an environment where people feel safe, seen, and like they’re just hanging out with a friend.
I’m proud that I built my business from the ground up without compromising who I am. I didn’t want to create that typical doctor’s office or waxing chain atmosphere—where the lights are bright, the energy is cold, you’re in and out, and just another number. I wanted the complete opposite. I created something that reflects my culture, creativity, and personality, and that’s what attracts the right clients to me.
The journey hasn’t been easy. I’ve dealt with financial struggles, imposter syndrome, and a lot of trial and error. But I pushed through because I truly believe in this beautiful space I’ve created for my clients and community. One of the biggest tools that helped me grow was social media, especially Instagram. I was able to grow my business almost entirely through promoting myself online, and now I’m starting to expand that to TikTok as well. It’s been amazing to connect with people who truly align with what I offer, just by showing up as myself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to visit, I’d take them straight to Bishop Arts/Oak Cliff—my home and my favorite neighborhood in Dallas. It’s full of art, culture, small businesses, and just really talented amazing people. My studio is actually right in Oak Cliff, just a couple minutes from the heart of Bishop, so this area holds a special place in my heart.
We’d start the day with breakfast at Norma’s Café for some good comfort food. After that, we’d head to Bishop Arts to walk around and explore the shops. I’d take them to Spinster Records to check out vinyls, and we’d definitely hit up some of the local vintage and thrift stores. A must-stop for me is Espumoso Café, their empanadas and coffee are chef’s kiss!
In the late afternoon, I would take them along one of my hot-girl walks through Colorado Park, Kiest Park, or Trinity Groves trail.
For dinner, we’d go to Chimichurri, one of my absolute favorite dinner spots. After that, we’d end the night dancing our hearts out at LadyLove.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I also want to give credit to one of my dear friends, Sonia, who I met while working at my previous salon. She now runs her own business, Lvly Skin, and watching her go solo and build something for herself really inspired me. She was one of the first people who truly believed in me and supported my dream of going off on my own. Sonia was a huge help during the beginning of my journey, and I truly admire her and everything she’s built.
