Meet Queita Davis | Weave Specialist & Instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Queita Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Queita, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
At the time, I was younger, had just had a baby, and knew I needed a fresh start—not just for me, but for my child. I was looking for more income, but I also wanted something that gave me purpose and stability. I realized that working for someone else wasn’t going to give me the flexibility or the financial freedom I needed. I had a skill and a passion, and I knew I could turn that into something bigger. Starting my own business wasn’t just about making money—it was about creating a better future and building something I could be proud of.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Career Story Response:
My career is rooted in a gift that was passed down to me—doing hair. I’ve been braiding for over 25 years, and it started when I was just a little girl watching my mother. She was incredibly talented, and even in the midst of her struggles, she found a way to provide for us by using her hands. That inspired me more than she ever knew.
What sets me apart is my experience, my heart, and my mission. I don’t just braid hair—I help people feel confident, beautiful, and seen. I also specialize in alopecia hair services and cranial prostheses, giving women who suffer from hair loss their confidence back. That’s the part of my career I’m most proud of.
It definitely wasn’t easy. I’ve been through a lot—poverty, instability, and trauma. I had to grow up fast and take care of my sisters while navigating my own path. Starting my business wasn’t just about making money; it was about breaking generational cycles and building something real from pain and purpose. I overcame the challenges by staying focused, learning constantly, and reminding myself that my story matters.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that your past doesn’t define your future—your choices do. I’ve built my brand on skill, authenticity, and a genuine desire to serve others. I want the world to know that thebraider.com isn’t just a business—it’s a movement. It’s about empowering others, teaching the next generation of beauty professionals, and making sure no one feels alone in their journey.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Itinerary Response:
If my best friend was visiting for a week, I’d make sure they had the best experience ever! We’d kick things off with brunch at Yolk or Snooze—you can’t go wrong with good food and good vibes. Then we’d head to Klyde Warren Park for some sunshine and people-watching, maybe even catch a food truck or two.
I’d definitely plan a shopping day at NorthPark Center or Bishop Arts District—perfect for fashion, local art, and cute boutiques. For dinner, we’d hit up Pappadeaux’s for seafood, or Truluck’s if we’re feeling fancy. And you know we’re catching a rooftop view at Sky Blossom or The Statler for drinks and a chill night scene.
We’d spend a day exploring The Dallas Arboretum or take a quick drive to AT&T Stadium for a tour or maybe even a game if something’s going on. And we cannot skip Deep Ellum—live music, street art, and great food spots like Terry Black’s BBQ or Serious Pizza.
To wind down, we’d book a spa day at Hiatus Spa and maybe get matching custom press-on nails from Adhesive Treats or braided styles from me—gotta send them home with a signature Dallas touch!
Dallas is full of energy, culture, and hidden gems. The people here are bold, creative, and full of hustle—just like me. That’s the vibe I’d want my best friend to experience while they’re here.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout Response:
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my mother. Growing up, she taught me how to do hair, and that skill changed my life. No matter what we were going through, she always had a gift with her hands, and she passed that gift on to me. I really want to give all the credit to her, because without those early lessons and the passion she sparked in me, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Even through her own struggles, she planted the seed that has grown into my business, my purpose, and my way of providing for my family. She’s a huge part of my story, and I carry her strength and creativity with me in everything I do.
