We had the good fortune of connecting with Antonio Burriel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Antonio, how do you think about risk?
Risk-taking is an essential part of growth, especially in photography, where creativity and innovation often require stepping outside of comfort zones. I view risk as an opportunity rather than a setback—it’s about calculated decision-making and trusting my instincts.

In my career, taking risks has played a significant role in my development. Whether it was investing in new gear before having steady clients, pitching bold creative concepts, or transitioning into new photography styles, each risk has helped me refine my skills and expand my opportunities.

I believe that the best images—and careers—come from a willingness to embrace uncertainty, adapt quickly, and have confidence in one’s vision.

What should our readers know about your business?
My photography business is more than just capturing images—it’s about storytelling, emotion, and creating moments that last beyond the frame. What sets me apart is my ability to make people feel seen and celebrated. Whether it’s an intimate portrait session or a high-energy fashion shoot, I strive to bring out authenticity in every shot.

Interestingly, this journey didn’t start with a camera in my hands. Long before I ever picked one up, I built a career as a professional graphic designer. That background gave me a deep understanding of composition, color, and visual storytelling—skills that naturally translated into photography. What began as an extension of my creative work quickly became a passion of its own, and before I knew it, I had built a business from the ground up.

I started this business completely on my own, teaching myself everything from photography techniques to branding and marketing. It wasn’t easy. There were times when I doubted myself, questioned whether I was doing the right thing, and struggled to gain traction. But I kept pushing—learning from mistakes, evolving my style, and letting my passion guide me. My clients played a huge role in my growth, trusting me with their moments and spreading the word about my work.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that success isn’t about perfection—it’s about persistence. Every challenge, every setback has taught me something valuable. I want the world to know that my brand is built on passion, resilience, and a deep love for storytelling. This isn’t just a job for me—it’s a calling, and I’m excited to continue creating, growing, and capturing the beauty in every moment.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d want to give them the best mix of culture, food, and experiences that truly capture the energy of Dallas and beyond. Planning this is easy because it’s a real itinerary I’ve done before—every place and experience is something I’ve lived, making it an authentic and unforgettable trip.

Day 1: Downtown & Skyline Views

We’d start with breakfast at Magnolias Sous Le Pont, a cozy café with great lattes and pastries, before exploring the Dallas Museum of Art and Nasher Sculpture Center for some creative inspiration. Lunch would be at Pecan Lodge for some of the best Texas BBQ, followed by a relaxing afternoon at Klyde Warren Park. For sunset, we’d head to Reunion Tower’s GeoDeck for panoramic views before ending the night with dinner at Monarch, an upscale rooftop restaurant.

Day 2: Artsy & Trendy Day

We’d grab brunch at Paradiso in the Bishop Arts District, a beautiful spot with great food, then explore the district’s unique boutiques and street art. An afternoon stop at La La Land Kind Café for coffee would keep us going before visiting The Fabrication Yard for graffiti shots. We’d wrap up the day with dinner and cocktails at The Charles, an elegant Italian restaurant with stylish vibes.

Day 3: Adventure & Nature

The day would start with a morning hike at Cedar Ridge Preserve, offering fresh air and scenic views. For lunch, we’d head to HG Sply Co., where the rooftop seating overlooks the Trinity River. The afternoon would be spent kayaking or biking at White Rock Lake, and we’d finish with dinner at Tei-An, one of the best Japanese restaurants in the city, followed by a nightcap at Midnight Rambler, a chic speakeasy.

Day 4: Day Trip to Fort Worth

We’d grab breakfast at Snooze, an A.M. Eatery before heading to Fort Worth Stockyards for some Texas culture, rodeos, and longhorn sightings. Lunch at Joe T. Garcia’s would be a must for amazing Mexican food, followed by a visit to The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. We’d end the night at Billy Bob’s Texas, the world’s largest honky-tonk, for dinner and live music.

Day 5: Luxury & Relaxation

After a packed few days, we’d unwind with brunch and a spa day at The Joule Hotel, then indulge in some shopping at Highland Park Village. Lunch would be at Bistro 31, a chic European-style café, and we’d keep things relaxed in the evening with rooftop drinks at The Henry.

Day 6: Hidden Gems & Unique Experiences

We’d start the day with brunch at Meddlesome Moth, known for its eclectic menu and stylish ambiance. Then, we’d explore the quirky museums in Dallas, like the Museum of Illusions or the Dallas World Aquarium for a fun, interactive experience. In the afternoon, we’d check out The Texas Theatre, a historic cinema with a cool, retro vibe, or visit Rainbow Vomit, an immersive art exhibit. The day would wrap up with dinner at Rise, a cozy soufflé bistro, followed by cocktails at Grapevine Bar, a beloved local dive bar with rooftop seating.

Day 7: Brunch & Chill Farewell

For the final day, we’d have brunch at Bread Winners Café, a Dallas staple, then take a peaceful walk through The Arboretum and Botanical Garden to soak in the scenery. Before heading to the airport, we’d make one last stop at Emporium Pies for the perfect sweet send-off.

This itinerary is a mix of adventure, relaxation, and all the best food and culture Dallas has to offer. It was easy to plan because I’ve actually lived it, and I know firsthand that it makes for an unforgettable trip!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of my clients, who have trusted me to capture their moments and given me the opportunity to grow as a photographer. Their encouragement and belief in my work have meant the world to me. My parents have also been a source of support, always cheering me on and believing in my dreams.

That being said, I started this business on my own, and much, if not all, of what I know is self-taught. From countless hours of practice to learning through trial and error, I’ve put in the work to build my skills and brand. But I’m incredibly grateful for the people who have been part of my journey—every kind word, referral, and opportunity has played a role in where I am today.
