Meet April Rodriguez | Entrepreneur & Pageant Queen

We had the good fortune of connecting with April Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi April, how do you think about risk?
I believe there is risk in basically everything we do. I’ve always said I will always 100% take a risk on myself. I know how hard I can work and I know the vision in my head. I see the reward that that taking a certain risk can give me and I will do my best to reach that outcome.
Taking risk has been a very big part of my career. There have been many times I put everything on the line to be able to place myself in position that will give me the opportunity to grow my business.
I vividly remember Fort Worth hosting NFR 2020. My business was about a year old, had very little inventory and not much capital to invest more into it. But, I saw NFR as an opportunity. I spent thousands on a booth rental and took all my inventory. I had many people advise me that it was risky and I may not earn what I invest back. I didn’t listen. I saw my vision and took the risk. NFR was very successful for me. It led to more exposure and an increase in capital that lead to an increase in inventory. I was able to start the next year in a much better position. Risking it all allowed me to make my first six figures at the age of 20 from a business I started in a spare room.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I own two western retail brands. They both have their own distinct styles. It makes me so happy and proud seeing people make memories in the clothes they purchase from us. Life is filled with many important moments and we want to dress you for them; we want to be a part of those happy memories!
I always knew I would love to be in the fashion industry in some way. My business allows me to express my creative side and passion for fashion! Growing up in Fort Worth I was surrounded by western fashion! I grew up walking around the stockyards and seeing girls in the prettiest outfits. I always dreamed of being able to afford clothing like that. Which is why I do my best to provide a product that is fun, fashionable, great quality and affordable. My mission is to make western fashion accessible to everyone at a great price point; and have them feel like the best version of themselves in our clothing!
Getting into western fashion as a first gen Mexican American has presented itself with many challenges. I’ve seen the impact that my brand has made in this industry and I feel extremely happy when Spanish speakers are excited to shop with me. I learned that the western way of life is shared by all kinds of people. It’s actually something that unites us and I want my brand to share that message!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love my city! I would definitely start with breakfast at Esperanza’s. My personal favorite dish is the green chilaquiles and a coffee! I would definitely recommend to watch the cattle drive on exchange while you’re near by and enjoy walking around the stockyards. Wandering off to the shops at clear fork is also great! Press cafe has a great brunch if you’re not too much of a breakfast person. While you’re there you must stop by Oak & Eden if you’re a whiskey enthusiast. Don’t forget to take a picture with our disco giant cowboy hat at Sundance square! If you want a great dinner I recommend Del Friscos Steakhouse downtown or at 97 west in the stockyards to circle back around. You must go to the rodeo at the coliseum and a catch a concert at Billy bobs after for the full Fort Worth experience! If you’re not ready for your night to end there, walk down exchange and explore the nightlife. And, for a super late night snack you must go to whataburger!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My success wouldn’t be possible without the support of my parents and family. I would never be able to say I’m “self made” because their support and encouragement has allowed me to become who I am. My dad was born and raised on a cattle ranch in Mexico. From very early on he exposed me to the western way of life. I wouldn’t have the passion to be in the western industry now if it wasn’t for him. My mom has the biggest heart. She taught me the importance of helping my community. Which is what lead me to pageantry! Winning Miss Community Service and reigning as Miss Texas Latina 2023.
