Meet Shikha Gupta | Artist and an Art teacher

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shikha Gupta and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shikha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My decision to start my own art business stemmed from a deep sense of joy I felt when teaching others. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about seeing people discover their own creativity and confidence through art.
As a mother of a toddler, art also became my personal creative outlet—a way to recharge, express myself, and maintain a sense of identity outside of motherhood. Combining this personal passion with the opportunity to share it with others felt like the perfect way to balance my life and contribute something meaningful to the world. It’s been a journey of blending joy, creativity, and purpose into a business I truly love.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is deeply personal, yet it resonates universally because it reflects emotions, moments, and stories that many can relate to. I work across various mediums, exploring textures, colors, and forms that evoke a sense of connection and creativity. Under my brand, My Yellow Palette, I focus on creating not just art, but experiences—whether through workshops that empower others to explore their artistic potential or pieces that bring a sense of warmth and inspiration to someone’s space.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the community I’ve built around My Yellow Palette. Teaching workshops has given me the chance to meet incredible people, share in their creative journeys, and witness their growth. It’s incredibly fulfilling to see someone leave a workshop with newfound confidence and joy in their artistic abilities.
Getting to where I am today professionally wasn’t easy. Balancing motherhood, building a business, and staying true to my creative vision required a lot of resilience and adaptability. There were moments of self-doubt and challenges in finding time and resources, but I overcame them by leaning on the support of my husband, staying committed to my goals, and taking things one step at a time.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that authenticity is everything. When you create from the heart and share your true self, people respond to that. I’ve also learned to embrace imperfection—both in art and in life.
Through My Yellow Palette and on my Instagram handle, @myyellowpalette, I aim to share a celebration of life’s beauty and complexity. My art is a testament to the transformative power of creativity, and my workshops are a space for people to find joy and self-expression. My hope is that through my work, I can inspire others to embrace their creativity and see the world through a more colorful lens.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my friend hiking on the local trails in the morning, starting with a visit to Aussie Grind for breakfast. Their amazing coffee and cozy atmosphere make for the perfect start to the day. For dinner and drinks, I love Saaya Lounge in downtown dallas—it has the best vibes with a great variety of hookahs and a relaxed ambiance.
In the evening, spending time near lakes like Ray Roberts Lake or White Rock Lake with friends and family is always a peaceful and enjoyable experience. I would definitely take them to Dallas Glass Art for a glassblowing workshop. It’s such a fun and creative activity, and the end result is truly beautiful.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people who have been instrumental in my journey. First and foremost, my husband has been incredibly supportive, encouraging me to pursue my passion and helping me balance the demands of running a business and family life.
I also want to acknowledge the students who attend my workshops. Their enthusiasm and willingness to learn keep me motivated and remind me of why I started teaching in the first place.
