We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Stickler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Horses have always been an important part of my life, but as a child, while my parents did their best to indulge my horse crazy brain, there were not many regular riding options available to those of us that did not own our own horse in the suburbs of Fort Worth.
Starting Texas Star Equestrian Academy was partly to make sure other children in our area had access to something that was virtually non existent when I was a kid (pre internet). Healing that inner child, so to speak!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our program at Texas Star Equestrian Academy focuses on all around horsemanship and becoming a functional and proficient horseman/woman. We require riders to do so much more than just ride. They learn about horse health, care, nutrition, wellness, and so much more. During Covid this was difficult as in person lessons were paused. We moved to an online based learning for a few months. While this sufficed for a while, horses require in person lessons (you can’t ride or feed a horse virtually). Our amazing clients and fantastic staff helped get us through this time that was rough on so many.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A local day trip would be ideal! How can a horsewoman not recommend a trip that includes the Cowgirl Hall of Fame, cattle drive, and Stockyards Rodeo in Fort Worth? A little Joe T. Garcia’s since it’s very close for lunch and Cooper’s Barbecue for dinner!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Of course, my parents are a bit to blame as my horse enablers, but as non-horse people, I just laugh as they probably had NO IDEA that this was not just a phase! When I was a teenager, they leased my first horse, Majic and, eventually, I bought him. When I began this business, he was the cornerstone of my program and made everyone fall in love with him as much as I did! He was the start of it all.

Currently, I would never be able to function without my director, Danita Ayala. Talk about a right hand woman! She is who you want in the trenches with you!
