We had the good fortune of connecting with Shakia Spates and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shakia, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind the success of my brand is the trust & faith I have in Jesus. When I first decided to take entrepreneurship & my brand seriously I did not know what I was doing . I had to learn how to rely on my faith and learn how to hear the voice of God in order to know what steps I need to take to reach high levels of success . This is why I strongly believe God is the most important factor . To be able to accomplish what I have accomplished within my brand in the last 2 years was all because of gifts he placed in me & stewarding them through my brand .

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
To get to where I am today took lots of trial & error . It still takes trial & error because I am nowhere near the finish line . I’m only getting started. When it came to overcoming the challenges of starting & running a successful beauty business I have to keep myself reminded of my WHY to overcome them . The lessons that I am learning along the way is to give myself some grace when it comes to being a full time business owner. At times I can be super hard on myself but I have to keep myself reminded that when it comes to being an entrepreneur you’re not going to know everything . I want people to know that SBKBEAUTY also known as SlayedbyKiaa is a brand that was created to show that you can be young & multifaceted when it comes to your gifts & talents . When people see the name SlayedbyKiaa they will know and see that the person behind the brand is someone who never put a limit on what they could do in life and showed other young women they don’t have to limit themselves either .

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite place to go to in the North Texas area is Legacy . I’m a huge foodie . There is a plethora of cool& tasty restaurants at Legacy . They also have a food hall with many amazing options to choose from. I like to shop as well so I definitely stop by the shopping stores they have there as well . I enjoy brunch as so I would definitely take my friend to Kitchen & Kocktails on a Saturday located in the heart of Downtown Dallas . The food & music is always good there. I enjoy watching sports as well so I would definitely take my bestfriend to a Mavericks basketball game. If it’s football season she would definitely have to come to a college football game . The college football culture in Texas is something everyone should experience when visiting Dallas!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely want to give thanks to my parents. They have supported me in so many ways through this journey of entrepreneurship. From allowing me start braiding hair out their home , pushing me to go through college & cosmetology school at the same time , buying my first ever salon chair , & so much more . My parents seen the passion I had for the beauty industry and have supported that passion since the beginning. I am beyond grateful for them .
