We had the good fortune of connecting with Bethany Siggins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bethany, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
What I’ve learned about work/life balance is the “balance” part never happens. Sometimes your home life is more of the focus, and other times your work life requires more of you. The key is making sure that both work and home life are always being tended to to some degree.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I did not give myself credit for being a creative person until my mid-later 30s. What I understand now is that there are many ways of being creative, not just being able to paint a scenery or sculpt a figure. What I pride myself most in my career is helping a client better understand themselves so they can present themselves in a way that feels natural and confident. In my process, my client identifies their style words, learns how to dress their body shape, gains an understanding of their best colors to wear, and learns what works for them and what doesn’t (and why). Once a client’s wardrobe is a reflection of the person they are today, it is much easier and quicker to get ready for their day.
Since Finance was my first career, I did extensive training to better understand how to serve a client as their personal style coach, and I also gained certification through AICI. Education has always been highly important to me as it was instilled in me growing up. To best serve my clients in my new career, I knew I needed to “go back to school,” which is exactly what I did.
The path has been a winding road as any entrepreneur will tell you. In the early years of my business, I became a new mom to twins in late 2010. Once I got the hang of juggling work and being a mom, we moved from Dallas, TX to Seattle, WA in early 2015. This move took me off the career trajectory and allowed me to spend more time with my kids while they were little. We moved back to Dallas in mid-2018, and I re-launched my business in the fall of 2019 (right before COVID). During and post-COVID, I’ve been doing more virtual work with clients, which has opened new doors and allowed me to work with clients regardless of their location.
What I’d love the world to know about my brand is that I kept going. I never stopped regardless of obstacles. My pace varied depending on what I was juggling, but I put one foot in front of the other and kept the doors of my business open at all times. I am tenacious and will keep after something until I get it. Also, I love working with people and learning their stories. Service to others is at at the heart of what I do. I’ve always wanted to help others feel good about themselves and optimistic about their life and their future.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many wonderful things to do in Dallas and places to eat. First, I would make sure my guest had outstanding Tex-Mex food and a quality craft margarita. My favorite spot is Mariano’s Hacienda. Next, shopping would be high on my list of things to do. NorthPark is a must-see, not just for its many amazing shops, but also for the outstanding art and beautiful landscaping. Speaking of landscaping, The Dallas Arboretum is a must-do. It is beautiful year-round. I love doing the member morning walk around 8:00 a.m. before it opens to the public. I love the Good Local Market Farmer’s Market on Old Gate Lane in East Dallas on Saturdays. Get a taco or a kolache and browse the vendors. For a world-class museum experience, it does not get better than the Dallas Museum of Art. However, don’t forget your smaller art venues like Pencil on Paper Gallery in Dallas’ Design District. One of our most walkable areas of town, day or night, is Bishop Arts. I love the variety of shops and restaurants. If it isn’t too hot, stroll Klyde Warren Park to enjoy the bridge between uptown and downtown Dallas.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to thank the Association of Image Consultants International (AICI.org). This association helped me understand the role of an image consultant and connected me to a professional in my area when I was ready to explore image consulting as a new career. The association also provides education and certification, which sets an image consultant apart from others. What I’ve learned from the association and from the membership has been invaluable to my business and my growth.
