We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hannah, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I grew up in a musical family, and making music has always been important to me. I feel I can connect with my body and soul and find a fulfillment spiritually whenever I sing and play. Music is such a mystery and making it is so vulnerable and unlike any other activity we do as humans. Teaching others how to hone it as a craft brings me so much joy, and seeing the pride that comes with a combination of talent and self discipline is the most rewarding feeling as a teacher.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have wanted to be a private voice and piano teacher for as long as I can remember. Each step in my journey to this point, having my own studio, has felt natural. I worked hard throughout school and university, learning and growing as a singer and pianist myself, and then as a teacher. I began teaching neighborhood kids in high school, then was employed by The Searcy Community School of Music as a freshman in college, and then by The Dallas School of Music following my college graduation. After some time learning and growing at DSM, I finally decided to take the plunge and go off on my own. I began building a student base by teaching in homes, and I am fortunate enough that almost all of my students have come to me by referral. I love what I do and I love being able to do it on my own, in my own way. I am able to balance administrative tasks with teaching, design my schedule, organize recitals, and plan lessons according to what I believe works best for my students and for myself. I am passionate about connecting with each student at their personal level, and helping them grow from where they are and guiding them to reach their goals.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to brunch spots every day! There are a million great brunch restaurants in Dallas. I would take them to the Frisco Library, to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and to see shows at Fair Park or the Winspear Opera House. We would go to Six Flags (I’m a huge rollercoaster fiend) and the zoo, as well! There are a lot of wonderful parks and trails to check out and museums and events. I love the Dallas area!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shout out my own music teachers that helped me make it to this point. Laura Hamm, Jess Baldwin, Melissa Life, Dr. Susan Shirel, Dr. Cliff Ganus, Dr. Kelly Neill, and Dr. Scott Carrell. I am the musician and teacher I am today because of them.
