We had the good fortune of connecting with Matea Milojkovic and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Matea, what makes you happy? Why?
Morning walks, a warm cup of chai, and sharing a meal with family! These simple moments bring me so much joy and keep me grounded.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I began documenting my restaurant explorations in late 2022 when I was living in Charleston, SC. It all started because I had a hard time finding food bloggers that showed the total experience. I wanted to know where the best hangout spots were, where to grab a quick bite, where to work remotely, and what the overall vibe was like. It became my creative outlet and a fun hobby. When I moved to Dallas in 2024, I transitioned the account to cover the Dallas area. Although it’s been a bit overwhelming (Dallas is a MUCH bigger city than Charleston), it’s been an exciting way to explore and discover places in my new city!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There’s so much to eat and do around Dallas! I’d take my friend to three main areas: Plano, Greenville, and Downtown Dallas.
One of my favorite areas in Plano is Legacy! It offers plenty of shopping and dining options, and it has a vibrant atmosphere. Mexican Sugar is my go-to spot; their margaritas and lobster enchiladas are unbeatable! Another classic is North Italia for Italian cuisine. After dinner, take a leisurely stroll to Cru for wine and dessert. I recommend some bubbly and the chocolate fondue for two.
Arbor Hills Nature Preserve is a great spot for a morning stroll! If you visit in March or early April, you’ll be treated to the beautiful bluebonnets! Afterwards for brunch, head to Darna, a Mediterranean eatery with fresh, vibrant ingredients and fantastic outdoor seating.
For a unique coffee shop experience, visit Arwa! This Yemeni coffee shop features beautiful decor, unique coffees and teas, and stays lively until late at night. Their tea sampler is a great way to try a few of their flavors and pastries.
If you’re in the mood for a feast, Sea Pot Plano is the place to be. They specialize in hot pot and Korean BBQ, with hot pot add-ins circulating on a conveyor belt, allowing you to try as much as you want. It’s a delicious and fun experience, perfect for large groups!
In downtown Dallas, Terry Black’s is a must-visit! Our go-to order includes brisket, ribs, and jalapeno sausage. While it’s a popular spot, there’s plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Don’t hesitate to ask the pit crew for a tour of the pit!
If you’re looking for a more intimate dining experience in downtown, check out Catbird. Located at the top of the Thompson Hotel, Catbird is an elegant restaurant and bar serving up local, seasonal dishes and classic cocktails. The detail the team puts into the space is meticulous and well designed and the service is wonderful!
The Greenville area is another gem, with lots of restaurants and shops! My favorite is Plomo; their quesadillas are delicious, unique, and filling. Don’t forget to “make it dirty.” (if you know, you know! If you don’t, find out!) For dessert, just a 10-minute walk away is my favorite gelato shop: Botolino! You can taste the quality in every scoop, and their rotating flavors are always a delight. My top picks are Mascarpone and Fig, Coconut Stracciatella, and Gianduia. On your way out of the area, check out White Rock Lake. It has a trail all along the lake, water activities, and great picnic spots!
It would be a busy, adventurous, foodie-filled week!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to give a shoutout to my friends and family! They’ve been incredible in encouraging me to share my food experiences and always cheer me on.
