We had the good fortune of connecting with Kat Weaver and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kat, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
I truly believe that participating in sports early on and throughout college has helped make me a better entrepreneur. Athletes have to learn how to sacrifice, prioritize, focus, act under pressure, compete, and manage their emotions through each win or loss, all of which equates to the life of an entrepreneur. After college, I still missed the feeling of challenging myself both mentally and physically through fitness because it was how I started my day. After experience a rollercoaster of emotions in leaving college to take my business full time, I set out to choose a fitness program that would still excite and challenge me. Years later, I’ve progressed to being the strongest mental and physical version of myself thanks to the dedication of a fitness schedule. Monday-Friday, sometimes Saturdays I am in the gym at 6:30am and it gets me excited to focus for the rest of my day, post-workout.

Another major habit that’s helped me succeed is meal prepping. Sometimes my days can be so hectic or filled with multiple zooms so to be able to grab a healthy snack or lunch I’ve pre-prepared keeps me from crashing or getting tired throughout the day.

The final habit that I’ve stuck to for years has been the way I manage my to-do list. I’m someone who loves a checklist, but the secret is to order the checklist from most to least important. I won’t work on the small easy tasks because they usually distract me from the bigger or more time-consuming, even intimidating things that need to get done. It saves me hours of work each week and is crucial to having a productive day, month, and year.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Power To Pitch is the only program that doesn’t take equity in a founder and still helps them through the entirety of their current fundraise in securing capital from angels, VCs, grants, and more.

We specialize in helping early-stage, pre-seed to seed stage founders with their pitch and directly connect them to capital sources, like grants, debt, and/or investors related to their industry.

None of this was easy, BUT by vetting each founder we work with, we’ve brought together an amazing group of founders to continue to support and help raise capital.

Truthfully, Power To Pitch was started by accident! I didn’t know so many founders struggled to talk about themselves, what they do, and what they need. When I won 22 of 23 pitches I entered to help fund my first company, I was asked by many others on how I did it. When my pitch tips went viral, I decided to sell my first company and create Power To Pitch with the whole mission of helping founders get funded faster.

With 1.6% of venture capital going to women and .13% going to minority founders, we have a lot of work to do and narratives to change.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have only lived in Dallas for a year, but I’ve never had a bad meal!

Some of my favorite places to take people are either the Lower Greenville area to HG Supply CO for a fun rooftop view, or walk around the Bishop Arts area to grab fun cocktails, shop, and have some of my favorite Mexican food at Tejas.

I love being outside around Katy Trail with my dog when weather permits, so anyone excuse to eat, drink, or hangout outside – is what I will prioritize!

If we’re making dinner plans, I love Ka Thai for the best noodles, Ten Ramen for a quick but worthy bite, or if we’re looking for something more formal, the espresso martinis and steak tartare from Al Bernaits never disappoints.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout my husband. He believes in me and my abilities more than I do most days. After selling my first company, he encouraged me to try out my crazy idea for what is now Power To Pitch. Instead of accepting a tempting job offer, I took the full plunge into learning how to turn my knowledge into a course. In part thanks to my amazing business partner, Katie Dunn, we’ve collectively helped founders raise over $20 million in grants and venture capital (and counting!).

I know I’m not where I am because of just me. Entrepreneurship can be extremely lonely, so I’m grateful to have a team who helps lift each other up through the craziness.
