We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samantha, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
I would have to disagree with the advice to “always be prepared.” Yes it’s obviously important to be as prepared as you can be in any situation but I also think it puts a road block in the way of starting. Sometimes you just jump and figure out the rest along the way. You will never be fully prepared to start a business, have a baby, or make a major life change. In these instances waiting until you’re prepared can stall you from ever starting. You don’t always have to be prepared, sometimes you just need to go for it.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I remember as a kid sitting on my grandparents porch listening to my grandfather tell stories, that’s what I think of when I think of creating. I tell stories, and I tell them through photography and content creation. Over the years I’ve developed a passion for entrepuners which has allowed me to direct my passion for creating into helping others succeed. Now I specialize in not only creating the content but using it to build businesses through vision and stories. I think what makes my approach unique is my whole reason for doing this is grounded in passion and depth. This is not just a job for me, telling stories through creating is a way of being for me. This journey has not been easy, however, turning your passion into the way you pay your bills comes with challenges. I’ve learned the importance of finding a balance, I’m still learning this lesson. As a creative, it’s important to set aside time to create solely for the purpose of creating, no agenda, no parameters, just create. Through it all, my foundation being so rooted in my why has kept me going through thick and thin.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First we’d hop on the date and ride into downtown. I’d take her to the art museum and we’d walk around Klyde Warren Park eating at the food trucks. We’d get a day pass into one of the resorts with a rooftop pool and enjoy the day looking at the views and lounging around the rooftop bar. I’d take her to one of the many lakes around to watch the sunset and fly a kite. For brunch we’d go to Mercat Bistro and everyday we’d try a new coffee shop. On the weekend I’d take her to Greenville Ave to the underground market and walk around looking at all the shops. Before she leaves we’d take a trip over to Fort Worth and walk around the stockyards of course taking a picture on a bull.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my kids for being my why, for keeping me motivated, and showing me what true love is.
