We had the good fortune of connecting with Sean Ray and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sean, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
At the time that I decided to become a real estate agent I was desperate and I wanted to be in control of my success versus having someone else tell me my worth. Going from low income job to low income job takes a toll on you. To feel like you are worth so much more than what you are getting paid yet at the same time getting laid off or fired over very ambiguous reasons beats up your self worth. I figured if I was going to fail anyway it will be on my terms. I made a decision to live out of my car and accept rock bottom to build up from a base that I decided and that I was in control of. Sink or swim it was all on me.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I run a real estate business in Dallas, TX. When I first started out I was nervous to sell homes or help people buy homes because I only had my work ethic but no experience. I later realized that having experience does not matter as much as work ethic. I based my next few years on just waking up earlier and working later than everyone else in the industry. I prided myself on answering every phone call and followed up like a crazy person. Over time the experience came and social media became my new focus. That created a avenue to teach people the things I have learned on my journey and how they can profit from looking behind the scenes. It wasn’t easy per say but when you decide to give up everything that doesn’t get you closer to your goal it is not as bad as you think. It is more like running a marathon. You know you are going to get to the finish line so why torture yourself the whole time with thoughts of quitting or other things you could be doing. Just focus on making it to the next mile marker and nothing else.
My brand of real estate is the same as my life. I will do what ever it takes to make something happen if that is what I have decided to do. The goal is to keep the doubt out of your mind because it will show up in your words and actions. One ounce of doubt and you are out.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Dallas is mainly a food and bar city but I try very hard to show a different side of it each time a family member comes. I always start with some BBQ and shooting range because that is what they think Texas is. BBQ at Pecan Lodge and give them the huge beef rib to make them take their IG pictures. That then leads to a fun walk around daytime Deep Ellum.
Then it is a Saturday so I swing by the Farmers Market after. Then I like to show the White Rock lake area and the Dallas Arboretum.
After all of this we go to a cool dinner where ever they choose. If it is fancy sushi I take them to Uchi or if it is more casual sushi I take them to Oishii. If they are open to trying something new then we stay on the East Side and eat dinner at my favorite spot Ichigo Ramen.
Then on Sunday I focus on Bishop Arts. That is a great area to hang out for the day on Sundays. Then watch a game or play pickelball or disc golf with them. Through out the week I would show them things like Frisco, Addison and Ft. Worth.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My story could have gone a very different direction if it weren’t for a few people that really believed in me and pushed me to never give up. Some people that deserve chapters in my book of life would first and foremost be my parents. I was very lucky to have such a great, positive and supportive family. I think many people succeed in life based on their relationships with their family. When you almost gave up did they lift you back to your feet? Maybe for other people they always said you would fail and your whole point in life was to prove them wrong? Family is a very large part of every personal victory or failure. Also, there were a few other people that chose to mentor and not give up on me. Two of the major names are Tommy Lee, a network marketer, and Jessica St. John, my first broker. Both of these people dealt with my hard headed mentality and stayed patient with me through the whole evolution process. I owe so much of what I am now to these two people pushing me to always level up.
