We had the good fortune of connecting with Tierra Youmous and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tierra, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I have a great love for arts and crafts and I wanted to find a way share that love with others. I’m in a position where I can create as much as my heart’s desire and more often than not, I’m always thinking of new product designs or ways to improve old ones.

What should our readers know about your business?
When I first started my business, I was making hair bows, tutus and jewelry like earrings and anklets. For a while I actually partnered up with my sister in to make these cute tutu and onesie sets. Then as time went on, I branched out into making cosmetics and let me tell you it was definitely an experience. I had so many ideas running rampant that I didn’t know where to start first. I went from making headbands, to making body butters, lip gloss, soap and body scrubs.

Sometimes it did get frustrating when I tried to make something that didn’t turn out right or that didn’t sell but my sisters offered some advice and helped me take a step back so that I could keep pushing. I started reevaluating how I did things, I started posting more on social media and attending more events so that my customers could actually try sample in person before purchasing. I learned that when posting on social media, you can’t just sell an item, you have to sell the experience as well. Give the customer an idea of what my products can do for them and that can lead to repeat shoppers.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I guess it would all depend on what my best friend would be in the mood for. If they wanted to shop, we would go to the Village at Sandhill, probably see whatever new movie premiered and walk around to check out different stores to shop and eat at. For a low key day, we’d hit up a local bookstore and sit in the cafe and just catch up. I say one of the most interesting thing to do would be to go to either Dave & Busters, Frankie’s or a trampoline park.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my boyfriend Patrick. He’s very supportive of my business and has been there at almost every vendor event helping me set up, he’s there testing products and even dropping off packages to the post office for me. Plus he makes a great sounding board when I’m trying to plan content or products for the guys.
