We had the good fortune of connecting with Logan Swanson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Logan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I really felt out of control in terms of the security of my family. We were living hand to mouth with two kids and one on the way. I felt as if we were to have more controls over our lives, My wife and I both worked full time jobs and our quality of live was not very good. I knew if things were going to improve, we would really have to step outside of our comfort zone and make a series of new decisions : take a risk, start a business, and know there will be many hurtles ahead.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our business this day is successful because we have found ways to leverage underserved portion of the industry. We buy and sell land in a community of other investors. We found that marketing, funding, and mentorship were large gaps that needed to be filled. We grew into those niches with spin off companies and have learned a ton along the way.

There were as many setbacks as steps forward it felt like. Our days seemed to become finding one creative solution after another with some deadline hanging over our heads. And in real estate, like most industries, the sands are ever shifting. So that strategies that served us well one year, fell short the following year. So innovation was key.

Our brand is about being of service – to our land sellers, buyers, other investors, and hopefully soon to our local community. We have plans to develop affordable, family friendly housing in the coming years. In this way, we will be able to use the skills we have honed in real estate to make communities that are family focused.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a huge fan of the city and the country life that is accessible to us here in DFW. We would take them to some of our favorite local restaurants and music venues. We like to spend time in Bishop Arts, Knox-Henderson, and some of the local spots here in Arlington. Catching a Rangers game or a Stars game would be ideal. But also, get them out of the city to smaller areas like Sulphur Springs or up to Denton.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, my wife Alyssa deserves a huge amount of credit. She is my business partner as well as my wife. When I came to her with the idea, she showed immediate support. She has helped me in every way possible. There is also a local community of real estate investors that were in the trenches along with us as we learned and grew. They still meet with us today in the group we founded, DFW Land Investor Group.
