We had the good fortune of connecting with Eydie Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eydie, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is my drive, my vision and my perseverance. When I set a goal, I don’t stop until I’ve accomplished it no matter how long it takes, which is one thing about me, I won’t give up. Once I see success in my mind and believe I can achieve it, there’s no stopping me. However, success is not always quantitative. Often times, it is just about knowing that I gave 110% even if I didn’t meet a certain number. Other times, which is even more important, it is about walking in my true purpose, and having a positive effect on others. One of my favorite quotes: “True success is attained only through the satisfaction of knowing you did everything within the limits of your ability to become the very best that you are capable of being.” John Wooden. Last, but definitely not least, is my faith and trust in God. My faith gives me confidence to know that with Him I can achieve anything, and my trust in Him allows me to understand that He will never put more on me than I can handle. Even when things look absolutely impossible, my trust in Him reminds me of his trust in Me. My favorite verse: Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The name of my organization is Desire to Empower. We are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to empowering, inspiring and motivating girls and young women to act on their goals and become successful in today’s society. Our main areas of focus are: personal and professional development, career and education planning, leadership development and mentorship. We are very excited about the opportunities that exist in this new normal “virtual” world! When the pandemic hit, I was worried about how we would continue to fulfill the mission of our organization, but seeing how successful the virtual world has been and how people have still been able to engage, we welcome it.
My most recent business venture is my publishing company, Robinson Anderson Publishing, LLC, named after the last names of my children. My company supports authors by providing them the benefits of a full-service publishing company at an affordable cost while also allowing them to retain 100% of their publishing rights and all of their royalties from their book sales. What I am most proud of is the execution of it all and the patience it took to do it right. Although I’ve written several books, gained the status of an International Best-Selling Author and helped a vast amount of people with self-publishing their books, I still knew it was necessary for me to obtain my publishing certification to increase my knowledge and build credibility . Overall, as mentioned earlier, my perseverance and the goal of helping and being of service to others has contributed the most to my success, but it has not been easy. Many challenges have come along the way and I’m sure many more will come, but we cannot grow when things are easy, we grow when we face challenges. Over the years I have learned to look those challenges in the face and say, “I’m here!” Then from there I visualize and believe that I can overcome that challenge because if not, I’m already defeated. What I also learned is to ask for help! At one point in my entrepreneurial journey I was very prideful and thought that I could do things by myself, then quickly I learned that I was wrong. I nearly stressed myself out attempting to act alone. Finally, what I want the world to know about me is that everything I have my hands in, it is all for the same purpose; to empower, to inspire and to motivate people to discover their power within so that they can accomplish their goals.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My friends and I we love to brunch so first we would go to Black Walnut Cafe (my favorite) or Breadwinners for chicken and waffles and also mimosas of course. A great area for shopping and drinks, Bishop Arts District. My friends and I love a good, delicious snack so we definitely would have to visit Cookie Society for the sweet treats. Good eating spots – Krab Kingz and TruFire Kitchen and Bar but I could not let her leave without taking her to Wingfield and Helen’s Hot Chicken. Some other notable places to check out would be the Dallas Arboretum, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science and also a tour of the Cowboys stadium.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have a big support system but first and foremost, the man up above! Without Him, I would not be where I am today! Second, my friends and family. I love them all to the moon and back and they have always had my back even when it meant traveling from my hometown St. Louis, MO to help with whatever I needed or to just to be here for support! Also, all of those who have ever volunteered, attended a conference, purchased one of my books or supported me and my organization or business in any other way, my gratitude extends beyond what they can even imagine. Additionally, I definitely cannot forget sorority sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha. They are always there for whatever I need big or small.
