We had the good fortune of connecting with Clara McGinnis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Clara, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
We provide programs, school supplies, uniforms, and all services related to helping people to have a better l; life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am the founder and the coordinator of the Cedar Hill Action Team. When my son passed away, we did not have programs to help me being a single mother trying to bring up a young man without a father present. So, I created several programs to support other parents and children to help them have a better life. Since that time, we have been recognized as being the best organization in our home town. We have received many awards and accolades. We have helped over a thousand families and children, by providing, school supplies, uniforms, and food.

We also have a program called “Love thy Neighbor” This program helps senior citizens with food, and clothes, helps with repairs, and helps get rides to the doctor. We also take them with utility bills, rent, etc.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Day one: We will take them on a tour to the Cowboy stadium and Dinner P.F. Chang’s

Second day: Take them on a tour to Dealey Plaza where President Kennedy was assassinated and take them shopping at North Park Mall

Third day: Tour around the Dallas metroplex and lunch at the Cheese Cake Factory

On the fourth day, we will have , lunch at the Movie bar and gill.

Fifty days: take a trip to the Arboretum

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My grandmother was my mentor. At the age of 80, she opened a Headscarf program in my hometown of McComb, Mississippi. It is still in existence today, She was the pioneer in her day and helped many people with jobs and a better life.

I also want to acknowledge some leaders in the City of Cedar Hill that have helped me build our nonprofit organization into what it is today.. They are; Billie Ballengee, Melissa Valadez-Cummings, and Greg Porter.
