We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea Mack and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chelsea, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of NewEra Dallas is that the black and brown communities start to awaken to become more self-sufficient when it comes to social, political and economical issues in the DFW area. The success of NewEra Dallas and the surrounding chapters in the US is to utlize outreach as the catalyst for collective organization in black communities by developing programs and initiatives to imporove the environmental stuctures in black communities while changing the mindset of the people in them.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
NewEra Dallas and the Nation is unique because its a mudroots organization and its a lifestyle for most of the organizers that sets it apart from other non-profits. The premise of the organization is create an environment of self-sufficency. Its a lifestyle for the movement. We are doing the work to mitigate the black and brown communities’ issues that are encountered daily.

We as an organization have become who we are today through self-funding, donations from the black and brown communities, support from other statewide chapters and local business owners in DFW

I am most proud of the history that is being made, family culture and the systems/programs that are being put in place for the future of this organization and communities around the world. The process for the future that our organization is preparing for is not easy because there has to be a shift in the mindset. We are attempting to recondition the human brain of black and brown people that has been conditioned for over a century to be empowered.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The first place I would take them is Alkaline Hour because the business owner is a local Texan and he has two storefronts. One in the heart of Dallas and another in North Texas (Plano) a beautiful city that is growing exponentially and outside of the city limits. This is a great place to go if you are health conscious or maybe just want a fresh cold-pressed juice

Then, we would go to Kitchen & Kocktails which is a popular spot in the heart of the city and black-owned but has a great selection of alcoholic beverages and food. Also, the ambiance is an entire vibe to welcome you to the big city of Dallas

Lastly, we would go to where all of the people in Dallas love to go which is Arlington to see the Cowboys Stadium but its plenty of activities, restaurants and sightseeing along the way. The first place would be Ella B’s because its comfort food and they have a live band on the weekend which sets the tone for the night to go with friends or even a date night with your significant other. Then, if you are a brunch eater, ESO Mimosa Bar would be the next spot to check out due to the signage, ambiance and music on Saturday or Sunday. Finally, I would say make sure to get a daiquiri at The Daiquiri Shoppe which is a neighboring city to Arlington and 30 minutes from Dallas to cool you down from all of the Texas heat.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A lot of people deserve a shoutout for the successes of NewEra Dallas: First and foremost the founders of NewEra Nation, Kierra and Zeek Williams from Detroit, Michigan who started this movement in 2014. Also, all of the non-profit and business owners in the DFW area: CateringDone Wisely (Shanaye), Alkaline Hour, (Shawt),NotMySon (Tramonica Brown) ISeeGreatness In You, Pan African Connection Bookstore, Dallas Weekly, ImmortalMindz, AlishaBWell, ThePeaceAndLoveLifestyle, SpeakOurTruth (Delashawn) and so many more to name.

Lastly, the founding members of 2020 to start the chapter here in Dallas: King Ron, Asia, Felicia, Samantha, Dennis and Abdul along with our newest volunteers Greg, Tony and Travon as of 2023
