We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Arenas Alegre and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elizabeth, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I decided to start my own business after working for a corporate chain almost 10 years. I was in a managerial role as well as treating patients. I had thought about venturing out on my own for a couple of years, then I had my son, and that was what ultimately my decision maker. I was at the point of burn out- completing reports, calculating numbers, putting out fires for others, and still treating patients, most of the time taking work home. I know what I can do for patients, I just imagined what more I could provide for them and my family if I put all that effort (mostly reports, audits, etc) into my own practice. I also wanted to be a great mom and spouse who was able to be present and have more time to spend with my husband and son. I decided to begin a mobile Physical Therapy business where I could treat patients at home, at their job, or their gym. I knew I wanted to continue treating patients but on my terms, not the company or health insurance’s terms. I wanted to focus on giving patients quality care and deliver results as soon as possible to get them back to what they love. So here I am; I took the leap!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the owner of a mobile Physical Therapy business which provides outpatient orthopedic rehab, as well as prevention services, post PT maintenance programs, and recovery services. I love and enjoy treating the active population ranging from teen to geriatrics. My caseload ranges, for example, on a typical day I may have an 18 year old soccer player recovering from hip surgery, a 52 year old post total knee replacement wanting to get back to cycling, and a 72 year old wanting to travel with his wife now that he’s retired. Besides orthopedic outpatient services, we provide recovery services consisting of stretching, mobility exercises, soft tissue mobilization (use of tools, cupping, dry needling) for those active adults that just don’t have time to properly recover after putting their body to work. I am so proud that I now work in an environment where I can provide 1:1 care, just PT and patient. This allows me to give the patient excellent quality of care. There are too many PT clinics in which treat 2 or more patients at the time, decreasing quality and not producing results in a timely manner. At TruForm prices and cost are transparent and not reliant on insurance reimbursement or terms of coverage- no surprises, no denials!

In addition to these services, I have also started to host workshop and lectures at local gyms and businesses. Educating my patients on their conditions, health, and visualizing the potential of what their body can achieve is vital for recovery. Unfortunately, most times patients do not get the opportunity to deep dive into these topics with their health providers.

I knew this venture would be a challenge. I did my research and spoke to a handful of PTs that had decided to open up their own practices. In having my own business I now handle scheduling and treating patients, being compliant with state and federal laws, handling social media and marketing, the list goes on. It has been a lot of work. I am a sponge at the moment. My car is a library- constantly listening to marketing audiobooks and business podcasts. I have to remember that I went to PT school, not business school. Although the business side of me is constantly learning, the PT side of me is thriving and I cannot wait for what the future holds.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh this is fun! I would start my taking them to The Square in downtown Mckinney. I would feast with them at Rye, Local Yocal, and have some drinks at the Yard, Rick’s, and the Celt. I would travel down to Bishop Arts and stop by Salty Donut and Azucar (original to Miami where I’m from!) Keep going further to Dallas and enjoy brunch at Mercat Bistro and have dinner at Partenope. I’d then travel to Coppell to have coffee at George’s. Depending on the time of the year, making it out to a Cowboy’s, Mav’s, Star’s, or Ranger’s game would be fun to check out as well.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a Shoutout to my family. I would have not taken this leap if it wasn’t for my husband fully supporting my ambitions. Big thank you to my mom, siblings, and friends who also supported this move. Lastly, I don’t think I’d ever have considered this venture without my patients over the past 10 years. I love what I do and it is so gratifying to hear their success stories and what I meant to them during their rehab.
