We had the good fortune of connecting with Addison Holland and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Addison, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
As a hairstylist, it is important for me to make your hair beautiful but my main goal is to make you feel beautiful. I know most, it not all of us, question our self worth on a regular basis, it’s just the way today’s society has taught us. I don’t want that to be a reality for anyone. When you sit in my chair I want you to be reminded that you are a beautiful, smart, and amazing person. I want you to leave feeling loved and with gorgeous hair. My chair is about you. I want to know everything about you! What you love and don’t love. Things can get crazy in life, and my chair is a place where you can relax and unload all that weight you have been carrying around. I am here to serve and love on my community. I have had family, friends, classmates from elementary school, old teachers, and total strangers come sit in my chair and every experience is one I forever cherish. You are more than just a head to me, you are someone with interests and stories; and I want to hear every single one of them! My business is a place where my community can press pause on the hectic life they are living and begin to experience the love they should always feel.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a professional hairstylist. I cut, color, style, and take care of hair. In school, I learned hair is more than just applying color, there is a real science behind it. I have heard client’s horror stories about how their stylist fried off their hair so I make sure to make my client’s hair health a priority. I continue to educate myself so that I can educate my clients and keep them and their hair happy. Some days taking the easy route sounds so nice but I continue to hold myself to a higher standard and go the extra mile for my client. I learned this discipline from my cosmetology instructors, they are the reason I feel so passionately about performing the best service that I can. Dallas Reynolds and Samantha Alexander taught me that there is so much more. School is heard, ask any hairstylist and I’m pretty sure no one had a good experience. There were so many challenges and so many things to learn. But I was blessed with two amazing instructors who taught me how to love on my clients, how to save the health of the hair, and how to make pretty hair. I learned a lot in school. I learned everything from how to formulate color to all the different kinds of scalp diseases; but the most important thing I learned is how to listen. Things would seem hard but if you took the time to listen and learn it became easier. Life seemed hard but when someone took the time to listen to you things seemed easier. Because of the life lessons and school lessons Dallas and Samantha taught me I know the most important thing for me as a professional hairstylist to do is listen… and keep my clients hair healthy!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in the DFW area my entire life I can confidently say your trip has not been complete without a visit to the Fort Worth Stockyards. There is an endless amount of things to do for people of all ages! You can watch the cattle drive, go to a concert at Billy Bob’s, go to a petting zoo, have some really good food, make your own custom hat at Flea Style, and so much more. I personally love the Stockyards at Christmas time, because you get to see such a beautiful historic place just lit up with Christmas lights. There is a place where you can ice skate while being inches away from a live band performance! I would an afternoon exploring all there is to do at the Stockyards followed by a dinner at Paloma Suerte.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother. At first the idea of going to cosmetology school and not attending a traditional college scared my mom, but she knew it was what I wanted and chose to put her own worries aside and support me. She not only help put my through school financially but mentally. Every morning she would send me a sweet good morning text and every night she would call me after work to ask how my day was. She was a real trooper because most of the time I was complaining about my day. My days were long, I was in school from 7-4 and at work from 4-9:30, I was always exhausted, but she helped remind me of all the good there was. But somedays, she knew to just listen to my rants. There was so many times I just wanted to quit school, but she would always convince me to finish and I am so glad she did because it has now given me the best career I could ever ask for. While I waited to take my state board exams my mom continued to encourage me and ease my nerves. After I became licensed my mom made sure to be my first client in my chair and has since sent me many more clients. She continues to ask me all about my days at the salon and even helps me track keep track my expenses! She never once stopped believing in me and helped me believe in myself. I am proud to be her daughter, and proud to say I am here today because of her.
