We had the good fortune of connecting with Shayn Baron and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shayn, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was working in tech but I always enjoyed design and renovation as a hobby. We had a family friend who had a construction business and I loved working with him in the summers. I got to see amazing transformations. It made me fall in love with design.

It always stuck with me, through the years I’d fix and flip houses for fun. To see what’s in your mind come to life is really special. It’s challenging, hard work, but the payoff is so fulfilling. When covid hit, and we were all inside, I got inspired. I had just purchased a home and wanted to remodel it. I thought, what if I started my own interior design business?

What should our readers know about your business?
I’m excited that I can walk into a home or space and see its potential. I think a lot of people go through life not understanding how important their space is, and how it maps to so many facets of life. Your health, mood, energy, finances, etc, are all directly correlated to your environment. That becomes clear to my clients after I’ve transformed their space to be functional and beautiful. Mostly resulting in tears. My clients say they can feel the love in the space. I feel like I’m improving the lives of so many, one space at a time.

When I started out 3 years ago, I was focused on interior decorating and decluttering, I had a few handy men and could do small jobs, that quickly grew into a team of professionals. And the most surprising part was I got so many referrals that I had to start a waiting list. I don’t advertise, just share my content online.

My team and I have fun documenting our projects, it’s so exciting to see the before and afters. Tiktok is where we share the most content. I use it as a way to educate, inspire and share our process. My clients appreciate that.

There are times when I feel like this is overwhelming, and there’s a pinch to grow. Sometimes, I wish there were more of me. And other times, I feel like growth may take away from the quality and balance that make us, us. It’s a teeter totter for sure.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Actually, my friend of 20+ years and I just spent a week in Fort Worth/Dallas. We spent time exploring downtown and took pictures on the famous hat. Went for an early dinner on the rooftop at the Sinclair and happened to meet the owner. We had a nice chat over drinks about the historic building and his passion to restore it.

We went to Thompsons Book Store, a cozy speakeasy. The bartender, Jason made me his favorite drink. I said. “Surprise me.”, and he made the tastiest old fashion with tequila.

Another fun place is Akarii for revolving sushi. It’s really neat, the sushi goes around on a conveyor belt and you get to pick the ones you want.

We also had fun in the Stockyards. So many places to pop into for drinks, live music, dancing, and good food. I love seeing the streets lit up at night and all the cowboys. Some of the places have great names, like Filthy Mcnasty’s Saloon. We played corn hole and enjoyed some live music.

You can’t go wrong at Monarch in Dallas. The restaurant has the most beautiful views and the food is delicious. It never disappoints. I really like the atmosphere of Hudson House as well.

We finished out the week with a nice pool day with friends. Ahh.. I love DFW!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Raymond Chavaz is the reason I fell in love with design. Working with him was so inspiring. Not only did I get to rip spaces apart and build them back up, but I got to witness a truly beautiful sole. He was honest while sharing the rawness of his life, and unapologetically so. I admired that about him. He oozed authenticity, was a great teacher, an entrepreneur, and a stickler for detail in his work. He fought off an addiction and won. I’m grateful to have had him as a mentor.

I also want to give a shoutout to my team. They inspire me every day. It feels more like family, we have this beautiful balance of collaboration, trust and creativity. It’s exciting to work along side of them because the love and passion they have for their work emanates.
